Description

Imperial culture has a fondness for blood sport, though not every city can afford the massive expense of a grand colosseum. Still, this provincial city has done well for itself, erecting a handsome structure of carved stone in which the masses can be entertained. Tickets for the common spectator can be purchased in the main entrance on the north face, and bets can be placed with 'bookkeepers' in the square. Benches are shaded from the sun thanks to a colonnaded roof, though these seats are not nearly as comfortable as those in the governor's balcony. The governor and their guests have a private wing to themselves, and enter through a guarded gate in the south face of the arena.

Gladiators and other combatants (such as condemned criminals) access the arena floor through gates in the east and western sides, while hatches set into the floor allow for beasts and monsters to be released from underground tunnels. Those condemned to die honorless deaths may be chained to the two stone pillars in the arena, often as a lead for the main events.
