Ahaha Well, I'm glad you asked. I could attempt a long-winded and probably ineloquent summary, but I think it might be best to point you towards "City of Bones" by Cassandra Clare, which happens to be the first book in the series.
It takes place in "our world" based in New York City, and centers around Clary, who finds she can suddenly see the magical world around her that's hidden in plain sight. The main story revolves primarily around semi-magical beings called shadow hunters, (who are angel-descendened demon hunters) although the world and story also include werewolves, vampires, and the fae. This is highly simplified, but I hope it helps.
