Although originally commissioned as a dueling mech by the Baronic Houses of Smoke and Order, the Atlas piqued the interest of the House of Sand for an entirely different reason than its main selling point of personal combat enhancement. With its cutting edge miniature reactor, small profile, and enhanced battlefield awareness and mobility allowing the user to hide in almost plain sight as well as unparalleled all-terrain mobility, the Atlas became the foundation for a second commission from the Dust Men of the House of Sand Intelligence Service.
The Xerces MK1 is designed to be a scout/outrider, patrolling the outskirt desert of the House of Sand, incorporating advanced life support and water recycling system to facilitate long stretches of independent operation. Looking to take the frame off world, the Xerces MK2 incorporates greywash nanites as support elements, blanketing the area in a layer of sand-like particles that obscure the Xerces, coalescing into ephemeral mirages to further distracts potential onlooker from the frame itself.
