"A flash of memories clouded her vision, as the goddess was once again standing in the middle of an endless meadow of daffodils, bathing in the argent light of the moon, and being lost in the azure eyes of the kingdom’s chosen champion.
“Thalia.”
He said. His eyes never left her silvery ones as he whispered:
“It’s tomorrow.”
“I know.”
Was all what she said, before she decided that it was not enough:
“You have my blessing.”
That was what a goddess should say to her believer, no?
But the man just smiled, a smiled that made her, for one millisecond, forgot that she was an all high and mighty goddess. With one calloused hand, the champion caressed her cheek lovingly, and softly asked:
“Will you wait for me?”
“I’m the goddess of Time and Eternity, champion. The question is, will you be able to see me again?”
She didn’t mean to sound that harsh, but words are words, she couldn’t take them back, and she didn’t want to. A goddess fell for a mortal, what a joke. But as if the champion could see through all of that, he chuckled:
“I will. It’ll be a long war, but in the end, I’ll come back, and I’ll find you.”
He placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, whispered:
“Goodbye, Thalia.”
Before turning his back to her and leaving forever.
He didn’t find her.
The war was lost.
He was dead.
The whole civilization was doomed."

This is an excerpt from a short story that I wrote a long time ago for a writing prompt on reddit. Somehow I find it strangely suitable with the mood of this painting, so there you go :3
