Description

Taking one last deep breath he straightened up and looked into the mirror above the sink. It was old, grubby, and covered in little black spots around the edges. And the Sniper’s reflection in it didn’t look much better to him.

The scar was bad. Despite all the Medics warnings, he really hadn’t expected the sight that met his eyes. The mark was carved down his face, the skin red and raised on either side. Where it met the corner of his mouth the tight scarring had pulled at his lips, forcing them into a permanent half-smile.

The Sniper didn't dare touch the scar, but brought a hand up to the bottom of his cheek and tugged at his skin with his fingertips. He could pull the scar off to one side, but he couldn’t quite push the corner of his mouth back to normal. The skin around the cut was too taut for that. He really hoped that the stuff the Medic had given him would help. He didn’t fancy the idea of looking like he was sneering at everyone he spoke to for the rest of his life.

Every since the attack the Sniper had been thinking about ways of getting revenge. Now, standing there looking at the livid mark the Spy had purposefully left on him, he realised something. No matter how hard he tried, he’d never be able to match the vindictiveness of that man. Sure, he’d shot people. It was in the job description. But the Australian couldn’t imagine setting out to permanently disfigure someone’s face just in the name of leaving his personal mark on them.

It felt disturbingly like branding to him.
