The imperial crew members are usually mechanics who perform repair work on machinery of ships, vehicles and other functions.

The most fortunate were assigned to a command post on a star destroyer, space station or star system base to be a communications, sensor or navigation technician under the supervision of a commanding officer.

Those less fortunate performed maintenance and inspection of supplies and other management and documentation tasks.

In both the imperial fleet and the imperial navy the crew members could be reassigned as pilots or soldiers, since they were reserve personnel in the service of the empire.
