Description
Here's the full color version of the front cover of the sketchbook with a peek at what is on the backcover!Colored in Photoshop CS3 with a Wacom Intuos Graphic Tablet. I scanned a piece of orange pastel paper and used that as my background and colored over the top of it.

She's beautiful! I love that she looks elegant, classy and a bit old world, but still looks sexy. You've pulled it off so well without turning the sex appeal into trashiness. Fantastic work and you REALLY deserve that Daily Dev!

You're so welcome! Did you have a reference pic/model to draw from, or did you just make her up as you went along? Either way, you're brilliant lol.

Made it up as I went along - only to ref the hands etc to make they worked right. I used some photo ref at the coloring stage to make sure the flesh's looked good and to make the light accurate.

I did figure drawing and figure painting for 3 years in college - helped a bunch. And, I never hesitate to use reference of photos, models, whatever to correct a drawing at any time - I just generally don't start from reference. AND, I've been drawing comics professionally for 17+ years so I've had A LOT of "on the job" training.

All the figure stuff has definately paid off!
How does one get started as a comic artist?

I can't "preach" enough about how much the figure drawing/painting,and color has paid off in spade's for me. I fall back on it all the time!

Would you recommend any online/book tutorials for colouring, or do you think that learning from somebody first-hand will always trump being self-taught?

I don't have specific recommendations on online colouring, I think you take a little bit from everything.
I'm 98% self-taught re:art so the stuff I was taught was very helpful but it really just helped open new doors of discovery for me.

Wow, such beauty. I agree with the other comments, the texture does add something special to the piece. That and nice choice of colors
Is the OA still available by any chance?

Amazing as always. Terry. I like the fact that you let the paper texture show so much on her scarf.
Just love it when someone can make a computer color job look like it was traditionally executed.

WOW! It looks fantastic! Love how you comped in the pastel paper, but did the coloring in Photoshop. Been meaning to try that myself.
