Her eyes are stuck staring at the floor as she speaks, and he can only listen in silent sympathy.

He wants to comfort her, of course, but how could he? How do you comfort someone who has the exact same doubts as you?

Because she's speaking to him the same things he's thinking.

The other people wearing overalls and suspenders here are just like them, Jesse, and yet at the same time, they are so, so different.

The other Jesses don't have to seep in regret about the friends they lost due to their own selfish actions.

The other Jesses don't worry that every slight mistake will regress them back to the selfish people they once were.

The other Jesses didn't succumb to their rage and pain to kick Aiden off the edge of Sky City.

Because the other Jesses were good people at heart.

And they always had been.

But her and him?

They weren't. They did selfish things. They lashed out when they shouldn't have.

And now they couldn't even comfort each other, because neither of them knew how to comfort themselves.

They were stuck being shadowed by their own guilt.

Jessica and Jay bonded over the fact they're both incredibly guilty over how they acted in the past. Treating people around them badly, making decisions out of selfish motivations, you get the gist. Eventually they both had their 'wait I'm being an asshole moment' and started to change how they treated people and all that, but they both still have immense guilt over their past actions, and what it's cost them.

This is the first thing I've drawn in a week, and besides what I just wrote up there... I don't think I have anything else to say.
