Description
Welcome to the Metro Bus Sign Series, where you will witness the bus signs combining the past with the present and the future. In this installment, we take a look at Line 254. Up until December 2005, the 254 was a tad bit longer, w/ travel times going over one hour to finish the route [around 75 - 85 minute range] -- see Line 254 [A] for it's previous terminus & history. Since then, there was route change that didn't happened immediately following the Metro Gold Line Extension in November 2009; it occurred in June 2009 when the 254 moved from Lorena Street to Indiana Street in East Los Angeles & Boyle Heights area, btwn Cesar E. Chavez Avenue and Whittier Boulevard; the remaining route remained unchanged. Line 254 was discontinued in December 13, 2020 due to low ridership. Service alternatives in this area: Metro Line 55 (Compton Av), Line 251 (Pacific Bl, Soto St). and replaced by MicroTransit which serves in the Watts/Willowbrook areas where the line was running (Anzac Avenue and Grape Street).Up until June 2020, the 254 had its Monday through Saturday servide, w/ no Sunday/Holiday services; runs on multiple streets between East Los Angeles and Watts; and had early morning services, but not have any evening, late night, nor owl services. In December 2020, the 254 was cancelled after a decline in ridership, as part of the NextGen Bus Plan: Phase 1.
