This is a crap drawing but...bear with me man, I haven't been feeling great.People often ask if there are male nymphs. The short answer is: yes! The long answer is: that depends on your definition of “male” and “female”.
All nymphs naturally have a feminine appearance, but they don’t menstruate, and they can’t reproduce or breastfeed. Does that mean they’re not female? Does it make them male? That’s up to them. Many nymphs consider themselves sexless and/or genderless. Many use neutral or even masculine pronouns. Some even transform their bodies with magic to appear more masculine.
Austerity is an example of a masculine nymph. Like all maenads, he was a feminine creature born from beautiful music. But he eventually tired of his wild lifestyle of drinking and partying, and decided to seek the Divine of Love for guidance. He made the long pilgrimage to the Ethereal Temple and served the Divine of Love for decades. After much meditation and soul-searching, he was ready to ascend into a minervae.
Before the Divine of Love transformed him, he requested a more masculine form to match the pronouns he preferred. His request was honored, and he became known as Austerity. He was so named because of his quiet, serious, and bookish personality, which he had developed over his time at the temple. Once a wild, air-headed maenad, Austerity is now heavily introspective. He spends his time philosophizing about what it means to be, seeking the purpose of existence. The Divine of Love encouraged Austerity to go back into the world and use his philosophical nature to help people.
Today, this minervae travels between houses of Love and Light all over Gaia, where he counsels lost souls who seek their purpose. With his third eye, he can see glimpses into many possible futures. He encourages others to be true to themselves, allowing them to peer into his magical eye and see what lies before them on their current path.
