Backstory:

Vegeta, the latest in his royal line, was once the inheritor to the throne of Planet Vegeta, then homeworld of the Saiyans. However his race had been in the service of King Cold and then, the cruel and paranoid Frieza. While Vegeta was away, Frieza had used his powers to destroy Planet Vegeta, and most of the Saiyans that had served their organization or lived on the planet. Vegeta, his retainer Nappa, Radditz, and several other surviving Saiyans. For a time, he'd serve Frieza, who despite allowing some hospitality to the Saiyans, would routinely humiliate them, allow the rest of the Frieza Force to mock them, and other indignities.

Eventually his life would change when a planet called Earth was called to his attention. Mainly due to the fact of the enigmatic Dragon Balls, revealed after Radditz fell. Thus he and Nappa travelled to that world, causing destruction and fighting some of Earth's finest warriors, killing most of them. However the previously dead Saiyan warrior, Goku, appeared, and soon disabled Nappa and challenged Vegeta. The prince cruelly killed his retainer and fought a more impressive battle against Goku and the remaining Earth fighters.

Eventually he'd escape, and due to the Earth incident the Frieza Force was spurred to invade Namek, with Vegeta following along, eventually becoming a rogue element; aiding the Earthlings who had come there for their chance at the Dragon Balls, and helping against the Frieza Force for his own shot at the Namekian Dragon Balls. However his life would be taken in the desperate final battle against Frieza, only to be revived eventually.

After that he had an enigmatic time on Earth, where he decided to live out of Capsule Corp, and gaining a fiery romance with the human Bulma and gaining a son named Trunks. During this time, he'd soften and gain appreciation for Earth, the peace and heroics starting to make him more and more appreciative of the world and its people. Eventually he'd take part in defenses of Earth and has since gained power as a Super Saiyan and even with Divine might...
