My EarthPony OC, RuneWyrd, at various important stages in his life.

Foal: Born with the name CoalRun, nothing about him was particularly unusual- save for a grey streak in his tail. He was a happy foal, even though he was actually rather lacking in the strength and nature bond that most EarthPonies had. His parents simply believed he would gain these abilities as he grew.
They were mistaken.

Colt: Remaining weaker than normal, CoalRun became a bit bookish. At that time, he discovered a book of basic Runes in a far corner of the library... and began practicing with its contents. The resulting exposure to the magic triggered the beginning of a change, and the gray streak in his tail was now tinged with light blue. In addition, a bizarre cutiemark(a single vertical line) appeared on his flank. His parents were shocked at this, and ordered he return the book and never pick it up again.
They didn't realize he'd taken notes, and was still able to practice this strange magic....

Teen: Keeping his notes hidden from his parents, CoalRun could only watch as the 'taint' of the Runic magic began spreading further over his body. His entire coat- and even his hooves- had begun to take on the same pale blue tinge of the stripe in his tail. In addition the growth rate of his mane and tail hair increased, and the strange cutiemart mutated into a new shape. He recognized it as the Rune of 'Flow', as his first mark had been 'Stillness'. His parents eventually did catch him practicing, and kicked him out.
They felt such an action would 'wake' him to their concern, but he was to engrossed in his studies...
