"So come with me, where dreams are born, and time is never planned. Just think of happy things, and your heart will fly on wings, forever, in Never Never Land."

I've been dreaming of this shoot for the past 6 months, and finally the ideas all came together.

VERY nice indeed! The lighting and the entire photo itself captures a very mystical and warm feeling. One that you could expect from the tale of Peter Pan. Great job!

...I am very sorry to say I'm at a loss, but not in the same way as everyone else who has graced you with their enthusiastic comments. Maybe it's because I don't understand photography in the same way, but for some reason this picture doesn't feel the way I would think it was meant to.
The poses are wonderful, in my opinion, and I am impressed that the man in the picture was able to look so at ease while resting a good amount of his body weight on his arms like that (though I think his face and neck might be kind of red from the effort...). But there are two things I consider very important that are not a part of this picture.
First of all, the models are clearly not children. I'm sorry if you were actually meaning for this to be some sort of young adult theme, but in my mind Peter will always be a boy...er or an actress pretending to be a boy...ah, anyway, that was the first thing I noticed.
Second, for Peter Pan to be out in broad daylight with clearly visible windows like that...it feels really exposed. For something so magical as Peter to appear in such a bright and clear setting, it makes it seem like flying is something everyone does. Plus you can't exactly see the stars when the sun is out, so he'd be stuck there until nightfall...unless this is a storyline where Never Land is not hidden away in the stars, but there is still the matter of flying around in broad daylight unless Peter happens to have a magic portal of some sort...but then the broad daylight STILL kills the whole magical mood...ah, sorry for the rant, but I wanted to share my opinion...I hope it doesn't offend you or anything. I realize I am the only person to say such things (that is also one of the reasons I felt the need to speak up...) so I also realize that may mean I am in the wrong when I say all this, but I really wanted to see if I could say something helpful.

Hi! I normally try to reply to comments in order, but this stuck out to me. I'm not offended at all, and I appreciate you telling me this. I can see your perspective on many of the points you made.
I have read the original book by J.M. Barrie twice, so I'm very familiar with the way Neverland and Peter Pan was described. I know that this photo isn't aligned with the story of the nursery at night, but this was a personal photo that I wanted to create. It's a photo that has been in my mind for a long time, stemming from my personal childhood dreams about Peter Pan. This picture wasn't meant to be taken quite as literally/critically as you viewed it, but it IS open for interpretation and to evoke whatever childhood feelings the viewer has about Peter Pan, which means your opinion is completely valid. I'm no professional at all, and in my setting I just tried to create something magical with what I had. It was more of just being inspired by the story and feeling the need to create something to pay homage to it, even if it is not totally correct according to the literature. It thrills me that so many people feel that I captured the story of Peter Pan, because that is what I was aiming for, but I know that not everyone feels the same and I appreciate you for stating your opinion.
Also, this specific shoot wasn't meant to be done with children, as children under 18 would have required releases signed by their parents, and frankly I don't feel very comfortable posting pictures of other peoples children over the internet.
Again, I'm not offended at all! I love constructive critiques and you came across as helpful, not insulting. Thanks for your opinion and taking the time to write it all out for me. I'm sorry that my reply is probably scattered sounding, it's late and it's been a very long day.

I see, I'm relieved you received my comment so well . I realize I do often look at things more critically than other do, so thank you for understanding.
You're right, children as models can definitely be an issue, I hadn't thought of that .

its his pants that really killed it for me, its such normal pants...

but still like the picture, different then the usually on DA and not over 'photoshoped'

The-optimist In reply to Cetriya [2010-11-19 16:21:30 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, but you can't even see the pants in this picture? If you could see them, you would see that they are regular dressy green trousers that have been ripped and worn. It says in the book that Peter Pan and the Lost Boys ran around in ragged clothing and leaves, but they were still normal clothes nonetheless.

This is abso-friggin-lutely gorgeous. The slightly hazy look about the model who portrayed Wendy gives the viewer a 'just waking' feeling while the model for Peter seems clearer and more crisp. This can be analyzed by those who remember having vivid imaginations as children and who might have payed less attention to reality. They remember seeing their imaginative worlds much more clearly than they saw reality and I find your picture to be a wonderful depiction of this. But that's only if you intended for it to be seen as such. If not then here's a new perspective for you!

Thank you for sharing this over DA. I really enjoyed looking at it.

I wish I knew what all to say about this. The ivy wrapping around him, the dreamy quality to the background, the almost contortion-esque posture as he casually balances on the bed rail. This is just so visually interesting and brings to mind childhood dreams and make believe.
