Description
This is a tutorial for how I draw the Paper Mario style. I guess I could point out the fact that I DON'T have a tablet so I draw everything on a computer. But other than that, I think it pretty much speaks for itself.Edit 1: More pictures.

I LOVE this tutorial, but I have on question; when I use the curve line it only has 4 parts to grab onto to make it curve. So can you make more of them, or do you just have those four or is there any way to make it curve? Because I find it very difficult to curve stuff with it.

I don't think there is. I've never found one. My best option is to create curves in two lines if it's big.

Ok thanks! I am amazed by your artwork, I hope with some practice that my paper mario style drawings will be as good as yours!

I am having trouble with making a Paper Bob-omb. I can't find opacity anywhere on Paint.NET. Where did you go to find it and also if I do the other way of shading I use the Gaussian Blur it mixes with the other colors even tough I have clicked on that section. I really don't like using the gradient because it doesn't turn out right. Can you give me some helpful hints on shading?

Gaussian Blurr only works with Layering. You have to make another layer between the color and line layers.
Opacity is found on the Layer Properties tab, just click on the Layer in the Layer Window

Ok another question?
When you fill in spaces like you did the Tweeter's mask, do you do that while still drawing in red? Or do you turn it black?
Wait, do you use separate red and black layers? If so, I think I did my work wrong because I used 16 and still on red.

What?...okay let me put it like this.
Here are the layers you're most likely going to need.
*Background
Colour
All base colours should be coloured here.
*Shading
Only the darken bits
*Highlights
These is the light part of the shadings.
*Sketch
Outline + Black fill-ins
Anything black goes here.
The Astrix means that these layers are temporary. The Highlights flatten into the Shading. The Shading flattens into the Colours layer. The Background and Sketch Layers can be deleted, though I'd delete the background layer after you finish the base colours. Anything black should be done with the colour black (obviously) on the Outline layer. When you're picture looks complete, there should only be 2 Layers; Colour and Outline. After that you can flatten those two together and save the picture.

Question: How do you make round lines like you did for the Tweeter's head, nose, etc.? Because I'm trying to do the head and cap for my partner Russula, but I don't know how to make it round.

May I also ask why not to use pure white? Is it a graphical thing or is it just needed?

The-PaperNES-Guy In reply to LK92 [2011-08-09 01:23:20 +0000 UTC]
Well it's not mandatory... I only use an off-white because the actual in-game sprites don't use a pure white color, like lots of games(but that's because of graphic and transparency issues) I probably should have said "I'd never use a pure white"

Ah, I see. I thought it would be like that, although most in-game sprites that use transparency use a bright magenta if I recall correctly.

Hm, you want feedback?
More pictures. Seriously, it's a tutorial for a style and you have like 3 pics. You should at least have 1 pic for every step, but more wouldn't hurt.
It's just easier to follow that way, especially if someone doesn't speak English so well.
But other than that, it's good.
