[The Universe Is Not Small]By Isaac Thomas Riley - Intro To "Enter An Age Of Combat"
When we look up at the stars, are we not very colossal creatures? Do we not dream of bigger things to come, a world for every ideology and faction that humans have conceived of on land?
And is it not a peaceful place. Very proud and elegant. Twinkling at night and serene during the day? I measure the skies with infinite possibilities. A writer wields the mightiest pen on a battleground of paper. A dreamer wields his thoughts against the heavens. It is those heavens however, where the illusion exists. Where the real giants rest. Awaiting an age of exploration and danger. Not exploitation and adventure.
When I see the heavens, I measure a cloud by my side in great humility. O' how small we petty creatures are to that cloud that hovers high above us! How tiny and insignificant we are to the might of the yellow sun that dawns our horizons. Who at will gives us life and takes it away! Most importantly is the vast void of space. That deep and endless frontier where unmeasured life exists. Unmeasured trials and convictions will be tested. It is there, that we petty creatures are at our smallest. For no one knows when the final frontier ends. From whence it begins;/
Our Earth. So primitive and miniscule to a universe so vast. We haven't the faintest clue where it ends. We know where our oceans end, our vast continents. Full of possibilities and resources for our consumption. But the universe however infinite it might seem, encompasses us. It takes and produces all that we know, and understand.
It is up to us to make our destiny. From the cradle to an uncertain grave, we must be ready to endure unending possibilities in a universe we inhabit. In a universe that makes us giants in the eyes of a poet. In a universe that makes us tiny ants in the eyes of a dreamer.
O' how magical it must be to see upon that nightly sky and wonder with awe at our massive size. Our intelligent minds, and the civilizations that cultivate them. How significant we are in our own eyes that we ignore the mere fact that we are so tiny in scale of things.
It is however with great wonder and inspiration that we still look up at the stars and measure ourselves. Even with the lurking of great risk and danger in an unsuspecting universe. No matter how tiny we are, how small we seem; our collective knowledge and civilizations can expand and cultivate and test our own strength and mettle against even the most giant of giants.
It is here where we make our break. Where the tiny cradle of life becomes the seed of civilization. But it is also here that we make our stand. To test our convictions ahead of our break for freedom. We petty humans know all too well that the wisdom of time awaits. The cheating of death and measuring of happiness lie in our future. But we must obtain these things by testing ourselves against the awesome strength of those long seated giants. Sleeping in peace, and knowing that we are beneath them. Unwittingly getting stronger and wiser and smarter.
We are not giants, but we can be some day. We can grow to leave a legacy behind that will last us for eons in a time measured by light years and epochs. So let us begin where it starts. Let us invest in our future. As I know all too well, it will make us giants.
