Description
Appearance: A Monolith is a tall, thick triangular prism standing at around 3 foot in hight. The prism's material is made of a strange black rock texture with engraved markings from various dark cultures across its structure, ranging from the first Dark Jedi to sith to Night Sister. Along the three longest points of the pillar are is a very light indent that emits a powerfully green light in the presence of another force user, and if strong enough will present its 'seal' in the for of a glowing green circle engraved into f the top of the pillars triangular form.
Once permitted to open the pillar's shell 'transforms' as intricate pallets and sliders reveal more of its green light, from here a user interface hologram appears in the form of the Coven symbol and the voice of the Sith lord Darth Tharax. In the odd case a Monolith contains a physically holocron inside it several panels will form and slide away to allow the user to simply slip the pyramid out of its large casing, likewise for physically artifact.
----
Function: The Monolith was created during the early days of the Coven as a means to catalog and archive information on behalf of a Sith, in a sense building up its own super Holocron archive of information more advanced and compact than the (former) Jedi Libraries of Coursant. Once filled with information Monoliths are stored away in an unknown location under Korriban and stored into a supposed 'supercomputer' where its information can shared in the sith archive accessible in Korribans temples. The Coven are the only members of the Sith who have access to Monoliths and its 'computer output', though its information is 'openly' available to the sith at any time.
Monoliths comes in four levels of access;
- Public: Public as it says on the tin, public access is for public consumption, this contains general knowledge made up of a galactic database. This information was scavenged during the era of the clone wars and once housed in the Jedi Archives galactic knowledge databanks. Granted this information was 'updated' in transit with unbiased text that supposedly claims the truth that the Jedi where reluctant to alter or leave out.
Restriction Level I: This is the first level of restriction only revered for the members of the Sith, restricted to followers of the order and none force users who did not claim the title of 'Darth'. This level of archive teaches the way of the Sith, the Sith code, the basics in understanding the Sith and means to follow its path. Though it will not tell you how to BE a successful Sith they will give you guidance.
Restriction Level II: The second level of restriction accessible by Sith lords or higher. This is due to the teachings and techniques of various force abilities, but most importantly the history of former great Sith. Though the public history may remain vague on the exact workings of a Darth Bane and the Dark Jedi this level of information grants you deeper understanding and in some cases the means to learn their ways.
Restriction Level III: The last and most guarded of Sith secrets. Unlike the former three, this level cannot be accessed by the Sith database or its literary due to the levels of secrecy, such information must be hand delivered by the Coven in person. This is also because the type of holocron requires a lock that cannot be remotely access or unlocked, some that require self-blood sacrifice or a physical presence to unlock its knowledge meaning. Some holocrons information cannot simply be copied over but instead must be placed physically inside the Monolith for safe keeping. As well as storing holocrons this level also houses some of the most converted force artifacts, some that may never have use again and others that hold great potential from both Jedi and Sith ways of life.
----
How to access: Most information in this archive is readily available to Sith who wish to research it the Sith library on Korriban and requires a personal DNA authentication to access. Of course, as stated various restrictions stop apprentices or initiates gaining access to information they are not worthy to learn as well as keeping 'outsiders' from gaining sith knowledge. However, though the Coven collects this information it is possible for a holocrons information to be copied without it needing to be destroyed meaning a holocron can be 'donated' to the archive and immortalized whilst the user can keep the original.
Warnings and dangers: Like all holocrons Monoliths have their own lock and defense mechanism, some are simple enough to fill the air with acid and others will turn you mad if you fail to open its encryption correctly. The more restricted Monoliths normally require you to give self sacrifice, forcefully place your mind and body in harms way, even to the extent where a Sith lord and a grand master would need protection whilst opening such things as they put their mental, physical and spiritual well being on the line to activate the secrets long hidden.
Story Purposes: The Sith archive and Sith Monoliths are good means for sith to discover new abilities whilst ranking up if it's in your story that your Sith may learn alchemy but doesn't have a master to teach them they can learn the base foundation of it through the sith archive. They are even open to visiting the Coven and accessing the holocron directly if necessary. THIS DOES NOT mean you have access to start adding every force power under the son, changes to your sheet still require mod approval and understandably the teachings from a Sith Holocron take time and practice to perfect and used effectively, be responsible.
