Actually you could probably make some kind of meta comic where the characters wonder why Derpy has any kind of importance when from their in-universe point of view it makes no sense. It only makes sense from our point of view because we love Derpy and want her to be center stage.

I vaguely remember a certain 'Ditzy Doo' in the 'Winter Wrap-up' episode...she flew South to round up the Northern Birds? Was this Derpy?

Friendship Is Magic Wiki ~ Amy Keating Rogers intended this clumsy pony to be called Ditzy Doo as a reference to the episode Winter Wrap Up, but was asked to name her Derpy as a "tip of the hat" to the fans.

That was also Derpy / Ditzy mentioned also in Winter Wrap Up. Ditzy was her first name but people throughout the fandom now prefer her as Derpy. I still prefer her as Ditzy on account of Doctor Whooves & Assistant.
