Yeah, I guessed, it's the same unfunny thing from three years ago. Why take the effort to make something interesting when you can whip up a terrible forced meme? I mean, flat and one-dimensional characters are so trendy these days.

I don't know about that, but I do know that most of these background characters are given characterization by the fans themselves. It occurred to me that the writers of the show are just phoning it in compared to what the fans are doing because the writers of the show don't really take advantage of the setting and characters they established. They are just sitting on mounds and mounds of wasted plot potential while fixating the focus on only six characters while using the same plots over and over again. "Will Fluttershy overcome her shyness? Will the CMC finally find their cutie marks? Will Rainbow Dash stop her reckless behavior?" No they wont, because you are going to keep those plots hanging because you are afraid that the show will end if you close all those plots.
I'd say that it's less of a meme and more of part of her characterization. The same goes with her connection with Bon Bon.

I'd rather say her characterization was born from the meme. My only problem with this that it's nothing but flanderization . Unfortunately she's not the only character suffering from that. They're all just a one-hit 'wonders' with extremely little depth and one joke of a trait an insane amount of fans just beat like a dead horse over, and over, and over, and over.
- Lyra is human/hand-obsessed maniac who 'nopony understands',
- Bon Bon is usually just there as an optional facepalm/balance with extremely generic traits
- Vinyl bangs her head at a washing mashine she calls her bass cannon since she is a 'Dubstep DJ', despite DJs don't even make music, they mix them.
- Octavia is a mare with class who hates when her friend 'drops the bass'. Other than that, the only thing to her, is her double bass, or cello.
- Derpy is a rolling disaster who stoops down to a level of a domestic animal and jumps at literally everything related to muffins like the good puppy she is.
- Fleur is a poser who likes everything that glitters
- Lotus and Aloe are sluts who give a blowjobs to every stallion and/or have sex with Rarity because that's their "special treatment"
With this kind of flanderization Rarity'd still be just the Canterlot-maniac annoying bitch she was in Episode 1 (whose every other sentence also ends with 'darling'), Twilight'd probably wear glasses and braces by now, Fluttershy still wouldn't talk any louder than when she met Twilight in Episode 1 and Pinkie Pie would need to be forced on the ground to shut her annoying, evertalking mouth up. Read "My Little Unicorn" if you don't believe me.
It's like a joke that was not funny in the beginning, and by now, years later, is just beyond irritating. Being a writer with my own detailed headcanons about each pony, I wholeheartedly agree with them being wasted potential, however, this much depth will not going to make them live up to that, ever.

Yeah, if I were to do the speed dating, I'd have to withhold my MLP obsession*. Wait til she falls in love with you... then when it's too late to turn back reveal your secret 
*While I don't feel ashamed of being a Brony, at my age it's not something a woman looks for in a man (if I were a good/talented artist, I would probably be safer).
