During my Film and TV course, they made us do our editing with Final Cut Pro on iMacs. The iMacs were faulty and often full of bugs. For example, there were often connection problems when we'd try to capture our miniDV footage via firewire and the software became extremely infuriating for PC editors like myself. I usually use Sony Vegas to edit my films, but the controls that you would use to do something in Sony Vegas do the exact opposite in Final Cut Pro. We also had to "render" everything after every change we made, and there's another thing - the terminology is different. In Sony Vegas, "render" means saving your project as a video file. In Final Cut Pro, it's manually processing your project so you can watch the preview of it! In Sony Vegas, you need to do that - you make a change to your video, all you have to do preview it is rewind and play. And just when you figured out the iMac controls, the staff would update the system and you'd have to relearn the controls all over again. I hated it!
I was so pissed off by the faulty iMacs, the ass-backwards controls and their repeated changing the systems, that by the end of my second year I did a Gus Grissom. I took a lemon, stuck it on a coat hanger, and hung it on one of the Macs to let my peers and teachers know what I thought of it.
