Description
I never know whether to categorize these things as "traditional" or "digital". I chose "traditional", because the linework was drawn traditionally. Tones and textures were added with Photoshop, and those were secondary. This is the Chapter 1 page for Godlings. The first chapter, which includes all the pages that are already up, is titled "Serpentine". Posing for us is the long-suffering Quetzalcoatl.
You know what this means! More Godlings goodness on the way! Do tell me what you think!

I'm really Falling in love with your godlings. Where do you get your face references from?

I don't use face reference anymore. I've been drawing characters for so long, they come from my head. (Actually, they've always come from my head, they just haven't been this good.) And thanks.

XD You'll probably be sad to know, then, that I plan on redrawing this "Prologue cover" page (it's not chapter 1, like it says) and it will show Quetzalcoatl in his snake form, not his human form.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!! Awwwww!
well, he's still in your comix as a human sometimes, isn't he? (And not only heeeee....XDDD) And this picture is perfect even as it is. Besides, there is a special sence for me as I'm practicing in body drawings)

At first I thought he was dancing before I full-viewed... (APPLE BOTTOM JEANS, BOOTS WITH THE FURRRR....)
I must say, Quetz has giant lashes. And the whole tone of this picture makes him totally different from the fiery snake I usually see him as.
Keep up the great work!

Thanks! I was sort of going for a quieter, here's-a-random-cool-pose moment for the opening of the chapter...
...and the texture just does all my work for me, seriously.
And yes, Quetz does have heavier darks defining his eyes. He and Julius can have their eyelashes duke it out one day.
No, not really.

Yeah? Thanks! I was rather proud of his hand pose. Makes up for his other arm completely hiding, hopefully.

I love this so much. He's very attractive. I think if you brightened up the snake tattoos to a more vibrant green, it would look a little better. Maybe.

Hmm... Perhaps! You know, when I first envisioned this drawing, it was straight black and white. No textures, barely any tone. It was going to be simple and stark, like M.P.D. Psycho art. Utterly failed there, but I'm glad you like it anyway! Thanks for the tip!

Crit: At the edge of the ears is where the ears should actually be.
The bellybutton should be a quarter-inch lower.
There should be a dip on the deltoid about half-way. The hips do not go curve that much in.
There's very little contrast in the picture and no patterns to attract the eye.
Otherwise, its well-done.

At the edge of the... ears?
Do you mean a quarter inch relative to him?
The hips curve extra because I was emphasizing the snakey S-curve of his pose.
It's meant to be simple.
Thanks?

no, literally a quarter-inch.

otherwise it's not ideally correct... if you're selling this, or sharing it with others, i would advise it. inaccurate is not deviant.

Wicked sweet!
Did you vector these lines like you did the cover? I'm amazed by the amount of fine detail you managed to keep if that's what you did.

TheArtfulMegalodon In reply to Vongchild [2008-10-10 03:20:45 +0000 UTC]
I did. It worked wonders. I then went back and fixed a couple places where the vector made my lines kink, but overall, it helped a lot. And thanks!
