Hamato Yoshi was the Foot Clans greatest thief/assassins who fell in love with an artist Tang Shen and left Japan to pursue her art career in New York. One day he came home to see his beloved Tang murdered with the Foot Clan's logo on her body. the message is clear "You don't leave the Foot." Yoshi fled and became homeless using his skills to find food. one day he saw police cars near the pet-store and clandestinely found a sewer grate to slide into unseen. little did he know a truck carrying chemicals had over turned and and was spilling into the sewers. a rat bit him and he began to change into a monster. a monster in the sewers. depressed he walked through the area finding a blindmans walking stick and hearing a cry of small children investigating he found remains of a broken aquarium with the pet stores logo with the four turtles changing into humanoids from the same ooze that changed him. Seeing how scared an innocent they seemed the ratman took them in as his sons and they nicked named him Splinter
