Originally Chiyo was an intern for DATS with her partner Hazmatmon, but after aiding Alex and Shademon deal with the threats present during the "Gap Year" between Xross Wars and Hunters she became a Digimon researcher and programmer for the Zoners. Due to this past relation, Alex trusts in her to help work with Serpentmon to aid Dan and the gang in App Zone. This relationship was supposed to be strictly professional, however as Serpentmon shows more of his human side to her, Chiyo starts to develop strong feelings for the former human. While initially rocky, they eventually confessed their feelings and wants to help Serps recover his humanity. Chiyo is very kind and understanding, having keen knowledge for all things Digimon, but isn't above knocking a fool out if anyone messes with her friends/interests.

Hazmatmon is an oddball of a Digimon, often curious with various human activities and customs. It doesn't help that Chiyo often encourages such behaviour to further her research.
