Biography:
Jason Todd was a young street orphan who first encountered Batman while attempting to steal the tires off the Batmobile in Crime Alley, the very place where Batman's parents were murdered years before. The son of Willis Todd and Catherine Todd, Jason lived on the East end of Gotham City in the Park Row district called Crime Alley. Bruce Wayne saw to it that Todd is placed in a school for troubled youths, which turns out to be Ma Gunn's School for Crime. Jason earned the Robin mantle a short while later by helping Batman apprehend the gang of thieves. Batman noted that while Todd didn't possess Dick Grayson's natural athleticism and acrobatic skills, he could become a productive crimefighter by channeling his rage. He also believed that if he doesn't help the boy, Todd would eventually become part of the "criminal element". Believing that Jason was becoming too aggressive in his crime-fighting, Batman decided to suspend him from his active duties as Robin; angered, Jason forsaked Batman and left Gotham City. The two ended up reuniting in Bosnia to fight Ra's al Ghul and the Joker, who were working together to steal enough uranium to create radioactive dirty bombs. As Batman stopped Ra's al Ghul's men from getting the uranium across the border, the Joker captured Robin and brutally beat him with a crowbar, leaving him to die in the warehouse that is rigged to explode before Batman arrives. Traumatized, he took his remains back to Gotham and held a burial for him with his friends. Blaming himself for Jason's death, Batman resolved to continue alone. A guilt-ridden Ra's al Ghul used the Lazarus Pit to resurrect Jason, who became the Red Hood and waged a war against Batman and Black Mask, eventually leading to Black Mask releasing the Joker from Arkham Asylum. Red Hood captured Joker and forced Batman to decide between killing the Joker or him. Batman managed to avoid killing either of them, but Red Hood disappeared. Jason attempted to make up for his sins by leading the Outlaws, a team of wayward heroes including Arsenal and Starfire. The red symbol on his chest is now changed to a bat, representing his uneasy reconciliation with the Batman Family.
