"Λευτεράκης"

This is a photo of Eleftherios Venizelos (1864-1936). A Cretan politician, he oversaw the unification of Crete (then under the Ottomans) with Greece. He then went on to serve as Prime Minister of Greece multiple times during the turbulent years of the Great War (and the National Schism) and the Interwar period. He is generally regarded as one of the greatest politicians of modern Greece and a national hero. I won't express any opinion. However he was certainly influential and dramatically shaped the future of Greece and modern Greek thought for decades to come.

At the time, he was so beloved by the Greeks that the newspapers referred to him as Lefterakis. It's like Johnny for John.
