Description
"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." - Colossians 3:15-17
Well, today (8/26/14) marks five years since I became a Christian. I thought I had been one since I was a little boy since my parents took me to church all the time, but I never quite understood the gravity of my sin, and I didn't quite get what real repentance was. Until I was 21, I struggled against and fell into sin a lot, while thinking I was actually "converted" this whole time. It wasn't until that date, Wednesday, August 26, 2009, that I realized that my heart was not right before God and that my life resembled nothing like any of the saints (this word is just another term for "believer") in the Bible. I placed my trust in Jesus, and since then, my life has changed dramatically for the better. The sinful things I used to love have now become as garbage to me (though I still struggle with some things), and my passions and priorities have been rearranged greatly. I drew this picture to show how grateful and joyful I am that Jesus gave me a new and wonderful life I would have never dreamed existed. I can now sing for certain that God's grace is truly amazing! My works and deeds don't get me to heaven, it's solely the grace of God!
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.
When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease;
I shall profess, within the vail,
A life of joy and peace.
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

Yep ^.^ DA Umbreons are mostly seen in the nighttime being all dark and mysterious, so why not show him in a different "light" for a change? (I also drew him here because he's one of my favorite Pokémon)
Amen indeed!

We are human, no one knows who's right or who isn't. It's presumptuous saying that I'm right and you aren't. I simply say that we will discover who's right and who isn't after our death. But we could be both in the right, who know, religion can ben interpreted in many different ways, there are so many religions in the world... In the end what matters is how you act towards others, nothing else.

But we can know for certain who's right, right now. Jesus said that He is the Way, the TRUTH, and the Life in John 14:6, thus making the claim that He is the only one who is right. If we can't know who is right right now, was Jesus lying, was He mistaken, or is He right like He said He is? There is no other way of salvation but through Him. You may even treat others as respectfully and nicely as possible, but if you're relying on your good deeds to impress God and go to heaven, and you never trusted in Jesus alone as your Lord and Savior, then you won't get to heaven.

I guess I haven't been able to explain you what I mean. I believe in God and I believe in Christ, I believe in what He said to us, and that's right. But you know, there are always different ways of interpreting His words, I follow what He said according to what I think He wanted to tell us, but you could think that He told us something else. What I mean is that believing in Christ is always something personal, it's not something that someone else can "teach" you, it's something that comes from your heart. And for what concern me, I disagree with what my Church says, I think they haven't understood the real meaning of this religion. But, obviously, this is only my honest opinion.

You should now a think: the Holy Bible was written more than 2000 years ago, from people who had a mentality of 2000 years ago. Yeah, it takes inspiration from the words of God, but I'm sure it isn't written precisely what He meant. Because you know, He says to us to love the other as ourself, but then in the Bible there are homophobic comments and very high misoginy... Do you think that He could tolerate this, that He wanted to tell us? I think not. He's true and infinite love, He would never hate gays, lesbians and bisexuals, He would never hate women saying that they should submit to men.... That's I disagree in Church, I'm sure that the Holy Bible was mistranslated or people has misunderstood the real meaning of our religion. I refuse to see the Holy Bible like a law, I only follow Ten Commandments and the principle of loving the others as yourself, like Christ told us. But this is only my opinion, for this reason I think no one of us know really the right path, we can only approach it. No one is a saint on this world.

The reason the Bible speaks out against homosexuality, along with other related behavior, is because it is a sin; it has nothing to do with homophobia. A marriage between a man and a woman is a picture, or symbol of Christ and His church. That was how God set it up in Genesis 2:24, from the very beginning, Christ and His church will soon be married, and will become as one. I also don't see how it's hateful that wives are supposed to submit to their husbands. Again, it's a picture of how the church is supposed to submit to Christ. If you read Ephesians 5:22-33, you'll see how God intended a marriage to work. A difference in authority does not equal hatred; the wife is supposed to be treated with reverence, love, and honor by her husband, like how Christ loves His church and died for her. Lastly, I just want to point out that God does in fact, hate certain people.
"The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity." - Psalm 5:5
Anyone who loves their sin and hates God and His word fall into this category, and they will not go to heaven. Yes, God loved the world enough to send His Son to die on the cross for our sins, but anyone who rejects that sacrifice because they love their sin and the ways of the world will not set foot into heaven. Thankfully, anyone can be saved today because God is patient with us and still gives people in the world time to repent and trust in Jesus. However, His patience is not infinite, and people who continually reject the God of the Bible will not go to heaven. We should absolutely love each other, I agree, but that doesn't come at the expense of tolerating the things we know are wrong.

No, it's homophobia, because saying things like it's against nature and other things like this is only trying to negate the evidence, I have many proof that it's something completely nature and it has a certain goal in nature, it's to prevent a overpopulation, that could cause lack of resources for a certain species. That's what happening to our species, now we are 7 billions and resources are lacking, that's the result of imposing heterosexuality... By the way, I don't see the sin here... Really, I can't find something sinful, there's love between two people, it doesn't matter that they are of the same gender, what matters? When He said that we should love others as yourself... I really can't understand what's wrong.
I disagree for what concern your opinion of marriage, marriage should be a relationship full of respect between each others, not with someone that commands and the other should listen and following orders, this isn't respect. You say that the wife should be treated with love and honor, yes, but in reality who does this? I find this point as only a way of justify in a certain way misogyny. You show me passages of the Bible? And I'll show you something, too:
As in all churches of God's holy people, women are to remain quiet in the assemblies, since they have no permission to speak: theirs is a subordinate part, as the Law itself says. If there is anything they want to know, they should ask their husbands at home: it is shameful for a woman to speak in the assembly. Do you think that you are the source of the word of God? Or that you are the only people to whom it has come? (1 Cor. 14: 33b-36)
So, for St. Paul, women should have rights... Is it right? According to me, not. You are trying to follow something that was said 2000 years ago. It's time to evolve, times are changed, and we need to follow religion in a different way, more opened towards diversity... We should learn that it's not a menace, but an opportunity to learn more about the world. That's true love for the others, according to me!
I'll do like you did for me, quoting a passage of New Testament:
The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:31)
You say that God hates some people.... that doesn't make sense, it's a paradox! He loves everyone and ACCEPT everyone as they are, he's eternal love, and then you tell me that he hate someone... I think that's mankind that hates diversity and not God, and you use an excuse for justifying your ideas of discrimination.
I repeat, this is only my honest opinion. We will know who's right later... But really, I don't find the reason for these obsoleted ideas.... I think God wouldn't like this.

Again, I agree that we ought to love each other, our neighbors as ourselves, but that isn't the same as loving what the person does. If God accepts us how we are, then why did He send His Son to die on the cross for our sins? If He loves us and AND our sinful ways, then why would He want to change us? The Bible says that He hates all workers of iniquity, that's not my opinion. However, there is still this love He has for the world that He still invites anyone to repent and believe; His hatred isn't to the point where everyone in the world is doomed to hell without hope of salvation, His love for us is still great, thankfully! Mark 12:31 is about having a love for each other that's sacrificial and goes to great lengths, and it's a good depiction of how far Jesus went to make salvation possible for us, and we should have that kind of love for one another. It's not a justification for changing the definition of marriage to "whoever loves each other can marry." I'm a guy, and it's okay for me to love another guy in that I sacrifice something for him, but that doesn't equate to me being allowed to marry him, the two doctrines are not the same. I know the times are changing, but God is unchanging, and so is His word. Society needs to conform to the Bible, not the other way around.

I know that we have different opinions towards certain things, but it shouldn't be like you say.... Society shouldn't center around a unique religion and their ideals, but it should be open to everyone, it should allow everyone to do as they want of their lives, obviously if they don't affect negatively others! We have a principle to respect, the principle of equality, and still today I can't find this equality. Cause I'm sure that He would like that everyone could have the same rights of the others, this is real justice, and not giving some rights to someone and not to others. That's not love, as you consider it... You say that His words are unchanged... Obviously, but I think we should interpret His words in a different way than 2000 years ago, time are changed from then and it's not possible to think at the same time of 2000 years ago, don't you think so? Remember that Bible was written by people from 2000 years ago, with a culture of 200 years ago, and even thought the word is the same, I think that people has misunderstood it... Cause there are too contradictions in Bible, only if you see the word in a different way, you can fix all these contradictions...
And yes, He sent us Christ to show us how to really behave towards others, and I remember you what Christ said refering to the adulteress:
"He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her." (John 8.7)
And NO one in this world can judge others, only Him can, you know. We can argue about this forever, but we won't never know before death who's really right. You would say, "I'm telling you what's written in the Bible"... Ok, but let's consider the benefit of the doubt...

Amazing testimony!
I love your explanation of repentance:
"The sinful things I used to love have now become as garbage to me...and my passions and priorities have been rearranged greatly."
Truly, God does make us into new creatures when He saves us!
Another wonderful song that shows God's great mercy:
"Nothing in my hand I bring,
simply to the cross I cling;
naked, come to thee for dress;
helpless, look to thee for grace;
foul, I to the fountain fly;
wash me, Savior, or I die." (Rock of Ages)
Titus 3:4-7
"But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
not by works of righteousness which we have done,
but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration,
and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
that being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life."

Congratulations! Love the picture. ^^
What you said reminds me of a saying my grandfather has: "going to church doesn't you a christian anymore than standing in a garage makes you a car". He means it to be both humorous and serious at the same time. So many don't realize that you have to ask Jesus to come into your heart to be saved.
To be honest, I don't remember when I got saved. Probably because I was so young when I did, but I know in my heart, without a doubt, I have asked the Lord Jesus into my heart. The one thing I do recall is that it was in Sunday School when I did it.

Yep, amen! This also makes me question childhood "conversions" in general, because a small child likely won't see their sin that way, and it's not until we're a little older that we start to realize these things (perhaps there are legit early-age conversions, but those seem very rare). All I can say is that God is very merciful to us!

ChristianChick91 In reply to TheBoldMouse [2014-08-27 16:57:56 +0000 UTC]
I think childhood conversions are possible, but the true wisdom that comes with salvation may not be realized until they're older. I went to the alter as a child but not long after, I was back in my old ways. It wasn't until I was sixteen that the Lord touched my heart and I made the decision to step forward for prayer. I knew I needed to go forward. Ultimately, God knows the heart! Anyway, yes He is very merciful!
