This started out as a mix of grey shaded blobs on my digital canvas late at night, with not much more to explore. I’ve come to enjoy the fact that maybe 80% of my art comes from pareidolia while the rest will actually have initial sketchwork. I love the ambiguity at the start and it is pretty much ingrained in me nowadays--plus, it can be fun. It's kind of a loose drawing for the night.
Who came out of the shadows here? A girl named Steycer, who has seen many years and has not truly lived a lifetime, as it was stolen from her early on. This was during the Hierarchy era--the one that ended with the War or Wills. In short, Steycer managed to receive the sympathy of a BNE, Lor, who was a soul collector. For an unusually humanizing reason Lor could not bring it upon himself to take hers away, even if the girl was dying from natural causes. She was talented, and perhaps even useful for scrying the mortal areas he felt suppressed in...and so she in exchange for her own renewal serves as his champion.
Steycer is present in the next era, Rebirth, and is particularly pestering to Allen at times. For reasons I can’t yet get into, but will...Allendria’s soul is peculiar. Even as zhuard souls themselves are cyclical by nature and with each other (will get into this..), the normally neutral standing Lor deemed Allen as a potential threat or ally depending on several factors. So who better to keep tabs on the zhuard than little Steycer.
