This form was really the biggest depature from his overall character design, which did enhance the reveal of the smaller more stripped down look of his final form. That Toriyama... he knows his stuff.

The coolest form of Frieza. It never made sense to me how his FINAL form reverts back to a humanoid form when this form implies his evolution is going a completely different direction.
Then again this is from a series where humanoid pigs can shapeshift, 7 magic balls keep bringing people back from the dead, and anything can be minimized to the shape of a pill.

It came as a surprise, which might have been it's purpose.

In that light, it did give him a more enigmatic sense about him. Also, it probably would have been difficult and time consuming to draw him any bigger and more complex in a final battle against Goku.
