Description
Chapter One: Betrayal
Bon comes from the ashes, as the newest Lord of Cinder, and most powerful, he stares you down, with menacing eyes, and chuckles.
"I thank you," He applauds, "For helping me attain power." He raises his blade.
"But I must dispose of you," He aims his sword for you, "At once." He rushes you, and stabs his blade into your chest, incapacitating you. Blood gushes from your chest, and Bon laughs in your ear.
"Goodbye, chosen Undead." He pulls the blade from your chest, and presses it to your neck, subsequently slitting your throat.
You awaken. The smell of charcoal burns your nostrils, the air is thick, dense, and smoky. The surrounding area isn't as you remember, it has become more desolate, a wasteland. You do not know how long it has been, as the Bell of Awakening seems to only ring when the First Flame is in dire need of rekindling.
You stumble from the ash and soot around you, learning how to walk once more, and take a good look around you. The sky is a bright, burning red, the world seems to be in a state of Armageddon. You know what has happened. 'Bon, the new lord, has conquered the land, and created an empire', you thought, as you walk the desolate wastes.
There seems to be no more life in the valley, as even the plants seem to be dying off eventually. The only beings that wander are hollows, slowly stumbling around. This is no end of the Age of Fire, this is the end of the Age of Men.
Era: 847 AR
A lengthy walk through the countryside brings you back to Hankala, or so you thought. What was once Hankala has now transformed into a desolate waste, the entire city swept of everything, and renamed as "Aermagh, City of Death." You yourself think that sounds a little edgy, so you better end it.
As you walk to the Grand Castle of Winter, the surroundings become more drab and dreary, the damp atmosphere becomes more emphasized through many dying hollows and stained buildings, either through blood or excrements.
Past a small pile of rubble, a sign attracts your attention, "Jewel's" as it's displayed in golden font, the rest of the name has been charred off, most likely in one of Bon's hunts.
The gates to the Grand Castle of Winter are disheveled and rusted, cinders and ash floating in the mid-day wind. As you walk past the slightly opened gates, you are greeted by two cavaliers, who cross their blades at your presence.
"Halt." They state, their brisk voices piercing the air around them, reminding you of Bon when you first met him.
You draw your blade, and let it drop against the ground, it scrapes against it, causing sparks to float in the air around you.
--- Chapter Two: War ---
You swipe their legs out from under one of them, as the other swipes towards you, you block with your right fore-arm, and small amounts of blood drip from your arm, you knee the other one in the chest, launching him towards a wall. After countering the other's blade with your arm, you sucker-punch the other in the abdomen, denting the knight's armor, and causing him to fall to the ground.
You walk forward towards the Grand Castle, tossing the Knights aside. As you enter the building, a solitary knight in stark white armor blocks your path. He carries an immense shield and a humongous Great-Mace.
"Why are you here?" The Knight asks, "What is your purpose for being here?" He begins walking towards you.
"If you provide no reason…" He's right in front of you, "I will slay you." He draws his Bludgeon, the Bludgeon of Storms, and he enters a defensive stance, blocking you from any further movements.
You draw your blade, and get into your own stance, ready to counter his blows as they come.
"Interesting stance…" He stares at you, intrigued, "What might it be called?" He readies his bludgeon, and you clash weapons.
"Is it stance eight?" He asks tentatively, "Jeresu?" He swings the bludgeon upwards with immense force, you attempt to block, but he knocks your blade out of the way. He slams the bludgeon into your chest and hammers you away.
You stagger to your feet, looking at him, panting, and bleeding from your dented and broken breastplate.
"Oh," He springs to attention, "I'm so rude, I forgot to introduce myself." He walks towards you, and you get on guard.
"I am Lygerious Tyfon," He chuckles, "Descendent of the great Knight of Ralic, Gawyn." He prepares his weapon and thunks towards you, swinging towards you when in range. You make a clutch dodge back and swing your great sword upwards, clashing the two weapons.
"Impressive footwork," He compliments after he swings, "Knight..." He jumps back, creating a loud sound of Steel against Quartz, a broad, "clack" like sound.
You continue battling, a seemingly even match, you getting the occasional counter-hit off on Tyfon, and him getting the unlikely occurring melee strike. His weapon was way too large to be able to strike you often, as you were a man of good dexterity. The Bludgeon strikes a wall, and falls to the ground with a loud slam.
"This is getting no-where!" He exclaims, as he swings his powerful weapon, "Time to die!" He drops the bludgeon and tosses a right hook. You dodge low and uppercut his gut. He flinches for a few moments and swiftly kicks you away.
"You're not bad with your fists, either!" He laughs, wiping some sweat from his cheeks. He swipes downwards, slamming his fist across your right cheek.
You're knocked to the ground, bleeding out in the dirt, the gash in your chest becoming more raw and exposed, it's infected.
"If you leave now," He walks towards you slowly, "You'd be spared." He lifts you by the collar of your armor, and he sets you on your feet, but he still holds you up, to avoid you falling.
You shake your head in a sign of disapproval, and tear yourself away from his grasp. You clutch your blade and rush towards him, slashing up at his head, he blocks with his forearms and smacks you back, sucker-punching your chest plate, causing an even larger dent in it than before.
You stagger back and hack some blood, you feel the steel piercing your chest, and the pressure begins limiting your breathing. You slowly saunter towards him, who swiftly knocks you in the face with his palm, sending you to the ground.
--- Chapter 3: Letona & Pate ---
You awaken in a dreary room. Its damp walls leak with strange, light liquids. You look around, for an exit, a door at the other end of the room remains open. You exit from the room, blood dripping lightly from your chest plate, you look back to where you had been laying to see a great pool of blood.
As you explore the strange halls of the re-designed castle of Winter, you come across Tyfon once more, he rushes towards you, without his weapon drawn.
"Ah!" He exclaims, "You're alive…" He hoists you over his shoulder and brings you to their supposed med-bay. As you lay there, infection growing worse, he treats your wounds and helps you back onto your feet. You wobble for a while and finally get your balance, your chest-plate has been removed and replaced with a black leather tunic. The wound you had before is now covered in a fabric (I'm not super sure if gauze was existent back then, but I doubt It.) and cleaned out.
"You should be fine from here." He states, "But you must leave this place, as I will uphold my duty to protect it." He gives you a determined look before leading you outside. He leaves you outside the gate with his closing remarks.
"You were a good fight." He compliments you, "You've won at least a little information about the where-a-bouts of the king himself…" He turns to you again, "He is located to the west, past Pate lies a small town known as Letona. I hope you find your way." He turns away and walks back into the Castle of Winter.
You move on, through the city, past a large section of bushy, dry landscape, and finally into a large port town known as Pate. The town seems untouched by the great scourge of Bon's fleets. It must be a small town on their radar, you think, but quickly realize that isn’t true, as you must go through Pate to reach Letona, it'd obviously be a huge safety risk for Bon, so your words couldn't be true.
You come across an old fisherman, who greets you kindly.
"Oy," He calls out, "What brings you to these parts, honor-bound knight?" He chuckles, brushing off his pants, dust floating off into the breeze. You make a few movements telling the fisherman that the author doesn't allow you to speak so the character could be made out to be the reader.
"Ah, so you seek the township of Letona." He looks around, "Follow that path, it'll lead you all the way to Letona." He points down a small dirt path, seems like a perfect road for Bon's forces to use as a hideaway.
You bid the Fisherman farewell as you walk down the road at hand. The dirt is close to non-existent, many years of travel on the road wearing it down immensely. The small trek through a mountain pass of jungle like trees leads you into a mountaintop village of hardly any houses, with no people to be found.
--- Chapter 4: Yur'lhag ---
The brush in the area is an obvious subversion to the actual interest within the area. A tiny one man dirt path lies beyond some spiky brush at the edge of town, the dirt path is wedged between two grand, orange-colored rocky cliff faces. Through this small clearing lies the entrance to another valley, Ralic, or what's left of it, at least. Within this small entrance lies the gates to a grand castle, the Castle of Winter's sister location, and the home of Bon: Yur'lhag Manor, once an old estate, transformed into a mighty abode for a mighty lord, the strongest lord, their god, Bon.
As you explore the town, you realize the importance and fake demeanor of it. It's false, created by the Lord you seek to kill. They wished to ward of any ill-intent, for the safety of their king, their god.
A mighty voice beams out behind you. You quickly turn to be greeted by a blue-clad knight, a tall male Paladin. He’s of a large build, his huge Great-sword on his back. With every step he takes across the dirt laden streets of the town he kicks up dust, slowly accelerating and removing his blade from the sheath on his black. You remove your blade and cross-clash your weapons across one another’s. He stomps on your foot, causing you to stagger back, he kicks you over towards a large shrine carrying fire in the center of the village. You swipe towards his head, in response, he grabs the back of your head and pushes it towards the fire in the shrine. You struggle and push against his arm, slowly getting closer to the flames. As you struggle, you kick the bottom of the shrine, causing it to flip over and fall to the ground. You struggle away from the Knight and the both of you look into each-other’s eyes.
The fire begins to spread, setting one of the wooden huts lining the village alight. The sparkle of ashes and soot illuminate the area, as you stare down the opposition, he chuckles.
“You, the one Bon’s detailed…” He begins, “The ashen undead. Only spoken of in legends, said to walk these lands hundreds of years ago.” He saunters towards you, ashes falling around him, the fire has now set the brush alight, exposing the pathway to the grand Yur’lhag Manor. You look off down the path, a sudden sharp pain pounds from your right cheek, you stick your hand to your cheek as you look over, the Paladin has punched you across the face, and you’re bleeding, bad. You rush up to him, swiping your blade downwards, he counters with his forearm and you’re overcome with a strange feeling, one of karma. He kicks your legs out from under you and uppercuts you. You fall to the ground, coughing and choking, he rushes up and swipes down. His arm is grabbed and he is flipped, and tossed to the ground. You look up towards the person who did this, his head is covered in a cloth surrounding his it’s and head, the person’s body is covered in a shroud, and it’s wearing high quality leather boots and gloves. The person turns around, and removes the cloth around their head, Charles stares down upon you.
--- Chapter 5: Charles & the Original Ashen One ---
“Y-You?” Charles sputters “I thought you were dead!” He chatters about for a while, pacing around, “Bon said you were dead…” He shakes you, before coming to a realization, “Oh right, you’re an Ashen Undead. Well what happened? I noticed when Bon told me that he had become insanely more powerful…” Charles’s eyes light up, “He did something terrible, didn’t he!?” He asks, “I’m knowledgeable of the First Flame never being linked, and the fact that you died. He… He killed you, didn’t he?” He looks down, and back towards you.
“We should be going.” Charles becomes more serious, as he looks towards the location of the newly disheveled bushes off yonder.
“Seems our path has opened.” His eyes shift back to you. You enter the newly opened crevasse in the wall, and continue down the path to Yur’lhag Manor.
