Pixel art can be cool, too.I've been working on this since October 14th (on and off, I eat and sleep and go to school occasionally...) and thought I'd show you my progress so far. Its going to eventually turn into a wallpaper, so keep your eyes open.
Made in Paint Shop Pro 6. 17 layers.

interesting architecture, i can't help thinking it would look better is the foremost edges' black lines are highlighted, as opposed to being black.

The structure is great. Very imaginative indeed. Still, there are a few things to correct about this image's coloring.
First, I see that the metallic tubes' coloring is a bit irregular. Did you use a gradient tool for coloring those?, because the dithering looks too uneven, and, all in all, it doesn't help to the pixelation. Actually, overall, the dithering is uneven, like if you worked with lots of colors and then you did a color reduction. I am not saying that you did this, but that's the feeling it gives to me. Also, personally, I don't like the black outlines in that geometrical figure at the middle at all. See if you can use some colored outline for it.
Anyway, I do think that it's a really good piece that shows you worked very hard on it.
