 Archimedes issue #5

We start off with Ten Count arriving at an elementary school in a beat up and practically broken police cruiser. He waits and sees a school bus arriving in the distance, then grabs the radio, sending out a call that he’s about the flatten the school and, if anybody want to stop him, now’s the time. As if in response, the bus stops at the gate and smirks before winding up to run it down. Mid-stride, Archimedes comes blasting out of nowhere and tackles Ten Count away from the parking lot and into a fenced in basketball court.

After recovering, Ten Count takes a chance to mock the hero and ask him if he’s going to run away again. In response, Archimedes walks to the gate and locks it, not really a barrier for either of them, but a clear declaration, no one’s getting in, and no one’s leaving. Their fight begins with Archimedes already on the back foot, his suit is still badly damaged and he can’t engage his jet-pack for long periods of time, but, he can use it in quick bursts, mimicking Ten Count’s own mobility harness to push or pull him out of danger when Ten Count started throwing punches. In addition to that, he was able to use his higher mobility to attach a device to the back of Ten Count’s harness, downloading over ten-thousand hours of Go-Pro footage into the AI running his mobility jets, clogging it, slowing it down. Archimedes is able to get in a few good hits as Ten Count fights against his own rig, but, eventually, his enemy disconnects from the AI and begins to fight Archimedes directly.

Even without the harness, Ten Count is still a trained martial artist with cybernetic enhancements and he’s nearly able to overwhelm Archimedes in short order. Then, Archimedes turns the tables, grabbing hold of Ten Count and ramming him, full speed into the basketball goal. This manages to do enough damage that it causes Ten Count’s harness to malfunction, throwing off sparks and catching fire. As he yells and screams in pain, Archimedes has to work quickly to disengage the power source and save the villain from his own equipment

Burned and beaten, Ten Count refuses to give up, but Archimedes simply takes the basketball hoop and knocks him out. Seeing an opportunity, he steals Ten Count’s headset and takes to the skies, looking for the authorities and seeing them approaching in the distance, but also seeing the crowd of children below all looking up at him in amazement. He waves and leaves awkwardly just as the cops arrive.

Pulling away, we look through the viewpoint of a CCTV camera and out through the feed to see who has been observing the battle. In the darkness is Ten Count’s mysterious boss who simply claps his hands and laughs, genuinely.

“That’s my boy,” he declares happily.
