Archimedes issue #6

We begin as the trial of Ten Count is wrapping up, he pleads guilty and receives twenty consecutive life sentences, but, before he is carted away, his lawyer leans close and whispers to him, “Thanks for making this easy”. As he is being transported to the super-max prison where he will spend the rest of his natural life, we see a small cricket drone climbing one of the guard’s sleeves. Ten Count points this out to the guard who turns to look only for the drone to charge up an electrical blast that bored its way through the poor man’s skull. Several more blasts sound around the transport, all of the guards and the drivers fall dead.

The transport veers off into a ditch and, as Ten Count climbs his way out of the pile of bodies, he finds one of the cricket drones and holds out his shackles. He laughs and demands that it sever his cuffs. It says nothing, and a whole swarm of them climb atop the pile to join the first. Together they charge up a massive blast and use it to murder Ten Count where he sits. We then transition to Kirby’s mother, watching a news report on the subject and chatting on the phone about how she plans to use her newly acquired construction company to leverage the mayor out of office (basically, she’s over charging him for the projects and that will raise taxes which will reflect badly on him come election time). As she leaves for work, Marrietta moves on to check in on Kirby who has been very busy for some time.

In addition to making repairs to his suit, he’s been attempting to make upgrades, in recognition of how Ten Count had easily dominated him during both of their fights. In addition to adding weights to his boots, reinforcing them for combat, he also builds stronger and more durable bracers to help him absorb more damage. The biggest addition to his arsenal, however, is a new AI drone whom he had named C.L.A.W. (Computer Logistics and Assault Weapon) which he had partially created from Ten Count’s stolen headgear. He admits that he had taken it as a clue, a means to locate whoever Ten Count had been working for, but, whoever they were they had covered their tracks too well and, as they say, waste not, want not.

Marrietta makes a comment that C.L.A.W. doesn’t appear to have any weapons, which Kirby admits to, he basically just thought up the acronym and thought it sounded cool. He goes on to explain that what it’s really meant for is battlefield awareness and observation. A complete version would allow him full visual AR, thermovision, live-action predictions and tips, but he’s a few months away from upgrading the helmet, so, for now, it’s just a friendly eye in the sky who can tell him if somebody is sneaking up on him. With the preliminary upgrades completed, he takes to the roof, suits up and flies off into the bright blue sky.

We then transition from daytime to night as a couple stroll down the street hand in hand. They whisper a few sweet nothings to one another, then share a kiss, then, the guy splits away, heading towards a nearby ATM. He fiddles with his card for a moment, then notices a cricket drone sitting next to the key pad. The cricket drone starts charging up a blast.
