Bulletstorm 2 –prologue

Bulletstorm is the story of Dead Echo, a black ops team that, unbeknownst to them, were being used to silence various civilian detractors and protestors who had the bad luck of speaking out against the government, more specifically, a general named Serano. After learning how stained their hands had become they, or, more specifically their leader Gray retired them from the Black Ops game and they spent the next ten years being pirates. Though they had no power to prove their claims, Serano held a grudge against them and sent numerous mercenaries after the group, even offering high bounties if they were brought in dead, you know, before they could be interrogated.

By sheer stupid luck, they come out of hyperspace right next to Serano’s flagship, and Gray, tired of running (and very, Very drunk), decides to take it on single handed. They are almost immediately shot down but attempt a last suicidal charge to bring the ship (the Ulysses) down with them. The Gambit…partially succeeds, as both ships are sent careening to the planet below, one that Serano had been preparing to wipe clean using a gene bomb. The planet itself is teeming with life, giant monsters mutant freaks, and, of course, survivors of the crashed Ulysses.

Though Gray and a small number of his crew also survive, the numbers are quickly whittled down to just two, Gray and his best friend and second in command Ishi, who had just, very recently, been repurposed into a cyborg. Throughout the game, Ishi is presented as the ultimate consequence for how all of Gray’s choices have driven him and his crew from bad to worse, and he does his share of development, growing a bit and trying to remember if he ever even was a good man. Along the way they meet up with Trishka, another reminder of Gray’s failures, a survivor from one of his team’s wet work missions molded by the hands of Serano into a deadly enemy.

Many trials and misadventures ensue with Gray and Ishi having a final stand-off with Serano, impaling him on a bed of spikes, but, somehow not managing to kill the bastard as he makes his escape with a badly damaged Ishi. Gray and Triska are abandoned and left for dead with only minutes left before the bomb finally detonates. Through grit, determination and sheer dumb luck (once again), they manage to escape the planet in a pod and now sit and wait, alone in space, plotting their revenge…

Yeah, they’ve been plotting their revenge for over ten years now and I’m getting sick of waiting. So, come back in two weeks, we can get started on this and I’ll tell you the story of how I would pen a Bulletstorm sequel.
