1 Batman: “Is it done? The situation is fraying at an exponential rate.”
1 Oracle: “Yes. Here he is, Batman. Jack Napier. Alias, the Joker.”
2 Power Girl: “We’ve forged an entire fictional career. Lots of notes and asides in his various school and government files from psychologists, some of whom view him as a useful patsy, and some of whom view him as a psychopath. Many warn their superiors not to trust him. All the way back to his school days.”
2 Oracle: “As a security measure, whenever we’ve included a personal note with a name ascribed to it, the supposed psychologist, handler, or therapist is always a real person, but deceased so they can’t be interviewed about having objected to some part of his advancement or career.”
3 Power Girl: “As many notes as we could credibly manage are anonymous, though.”
3 Batman: “And Jack Napier himself?”
4 Power Girl: “A real person, but dead. As are his parents. He was genuinely a troubled youth. And he was an only child. Old classmates might have vague recollections of him, and he appears in high school yearbooks. But people who knew him won’t be able to contradict this story. In fact, they might be inclined to believe it even more than the average person, and add a layer of authenticity to it.”
4 Batman: “People like to think they have insider or expert knowledge, even when they don’t.”
5 Spoiler: “Are we ready to turn the whole story over to the press?”
5 Oracle: “Not the whole story. Karen had an idea; we’ve forged an additional seven documents that aren’t going to be made public as part of this info dump. And two would drastically improve the case.”
6 Power Girl: “That way, when the government looks into their own files – and they will – they will also be convinced of its veracity. Because they, too, would like to think they still have ‘insider information’.”
6 Batman: “Good idea. Well, let’s put this into action.”
