"Gareth - Temple of the Sun"

From the german pen and paper RPG "The Dark Eye" (Das Schwarze Auge).

This is my version of the Temple of the Sun in Gareth, the main temple of Praios, lord of the sun, truth, justice, order and perfection. I used descriptions in lorebooks (mainly G08 "Herz des Reiches") to help me. Since I wanted to draw it in it's full glory, I did not account the loss of the Eternal Light in 1027BF. Therefore the gigantic red glass dome is also still intact (which is why there is a reddish shadow around Praios' statue).

I tried to make it look a lot fancier than I usually do, but I think it is still not fancy enough for this temple which was constructed during the Age of the Priest-Emperors and is one of the Twelve Wonders of Mankind.

Since there is little in the real world which fits the descriptions (St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome is the most obvious one), I chose to go with a mixture of baroque (Dresden Cathedral, Frauenkirche Dresden, St. Benedikt in Benediktbeuern) and (neo)gothic churches (St. Luke in Munich, Ulm Cathedral) to get a feeling for the white walls and all the gold, as well as some colored glass windows for even more light. Literally everything in my head thought about light.

Now that I'm thinking about it... I have definitely been too sparse with all the bling

Oh and by the way: I hid 2 eastereggs. My favourite fary tale and the fandom which inspired me for my first fanart almost 10 years ago.
