I was due for a monthly meeting with Whitney. These check-ins were always negative, this one being no different.“It has been three months and you have still provided no substantial deliverables on your project,” Whitney ranted. “I am pulling the plug on your project. I am tempted to even fire you but I can at least use your talents for whatever Amanda is doing. I will be expecting you to assist her from now on.”
I grinned. “Unfortunately for you, Amanda is much more interested in my research than her own now. You might even say she is eager to work as my assistant.”
That response greatly angered her. “Even if that was true, that is not your choice to make. I run this lab.”
“Why don’t you come down to the lab and I can show you exactly what Amanda is so interested. Who knows, you might even let me make decisions for you,” I snarked.
“How dare you!” she yelled. “This entire conversation is an exercise in patience. And I am done with it.” Whitney stood up to usher me to the door. I had her exactly where I wanted her!
