Dana snarled at him, but forced herself to calm down, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. ‘Calm yourself, don’t let him get the better of you, deep breaths.’ She let out a long breath before opening her eyes again, her features painted with a scowl. “Even Alpha’s have people to keep them in check sometimes. Especially over an organization as extensive as ours. There would be a lot of dead idiots if I was in charge of everything.

“You know what, maybe you should do as I said and just keep your trap shut. You be quiet and I’ll be quiet. Because your voice is getting on my nerves. She grumbled, lowering her ears, red eyes narrowing. “And calling me names is not going to get you anywhere but shredded once this is over. They don’t HAVE to know I killed you if they can’t find your body.” She lay down, kicking away his feet slightly to give her more room since he was clearly hogging the small space with his chunky frame.

“Hmmm, do you have a bunch of dim-wits working for you too? I swear that my job would be easier if everyone did their job. Besides, I have an ex-coworker who will probably give me heck for leaving my post as supervisor. He’ll probably give me some type of responsibility speech and drag it out way longer than needed.” She contemplated the curly in her head and was alraedy bored before he even had the chance to give her a speech. Geez that was going to be annoying.

Crow watched the female with a slight gleam in his eyes. Was it really this easy to get under her skin? A couple of harsh remarks? He couldn’t help but wonder how far he’d be able to take it, but he thought better of it for now, snorting in agreement, “Oh I’m fully aware. I think it’s harder to be a beta than an Alpha. At least in some cases.” He shrugged “And let me guess; I’d be one of those dead idiots?”

He felt a small smirk tug on his lips, for once finding a temperamental tokota more amusing than annoying “But that might be an issue, I’m known for only taking orders from my alpha, not rowdy omegas.” He spoke calmly, watching her through the corner of his eyes “It probably won’t, but it’ll help me sleep better. Besides, weren’t you here to arrest me? Get information from me? Either way, if you don’t bring me back with you you’ve failed your mission. That won’t look good in your reports, especially if it looks like I escaped rather than died~” he pointed out in a slight hum, barely moving as she kicked him. Oh boy, for once he looked so entertained.

“Yes, but the biggest dimwits are the ones I work for myself. I think every job is like that, though my workplace sounds a bit more structured than yours. Oh, I do hope he ends up giving you that speech though, then you’ll know how boring and unnecessary this entire thing has felt to me.” He huffed, watching the storm roar outside with a stressful frown “I would’ve been at the checkpoint if you hadn’t interrupted me. If I get in trouble for this I won’t let you forget it, cause believe me, we don’t simply get a ‘responsibility speech’ when we mess up.”

She hummed to herself. “I don’t know if you’d be one of those idiots or not. I don’t know you well enough yet.” She said smoothly, her red eyes scanning him. “Rowdy little boys like you are often harsh under first impression, it can be hard to tell.” She tossed the idea around in her head for a moment.

“Oh, so you’re one of those goody two-shoe butt kissers hmm?” She smirked. “Not even I always take orders you know. I’m sure they would know what happened to you, as long as they couldn’t prove anything though I wouldn’t get blamed for it. Besides, they very well know what I’m capable of.” Her ears flicked. “But in a way I suppose I would have still failed my mission and I don’t like doing that so here we are.”

“In a way, probably. I guess I could take my job more seriously but I don’t get paid enough for that.” She huffed. “So you’re a Beta huh?” She paused. “Suppose it would be too bold to ask who your Alpha is? Don’t get me wrong, you’re a piece of a  puzzle, part of the problem. But it’s not Tokota like you that we’re after you know. It’s the ones that control puppets like you. You don’t have to work for them you know, I did give you the option of coming with me quietly.”

She internally knew he wouldn’t go for it. But either way she wanted to judge his reaction. She already could tell he was trying to get under her skin. As annoying as Medusa.

“You probably never will, but I’m quite good at adapting to new environments.” He admitted, keeping his eyes fixed on the outside “I’m pretty sure this ‘rowdy little boy’ is older than you, pipsqueak. But I doubt you’d think any better of me if you had the time to observe me.”

“Oh no I’m definitely not. I only take orders from one person and even that is a stretch to say. I bend his orders in a way that annoys him until he leaves me alone. For the most part anyway. I don’t doubt you could cover up my murder at all, but either way you’d lose. You said your orders were to bring me back dead or alive. If you don’t bring me back, you failed that task.” He agreed, his torn ear twitching from the sound of the storm.

“You’re lucky you even get paid.” He pointed out with a bitter smile, “It’s not too bold to ask, but you won’t get an answer. What I can tell you though is I feel more like his babysitter and psychiatrist than his beta. It’s my job to make sure he doesn’t go on a rampage, and I don’t even get paid for putting up with him.” He explained, then chuckled somberly “But I do. I’m not coming with you, I have people I cannot and will not leave behind. If I left the others in my pack would have to bear the daily torment meant for me. Besides, people can’t just leave that place. It didn’t end well for the last guy that tried.” Crow spoke the last part more quietly, remembering the sight of Orca’s mangles body chained to the floor.

Surprisingly he seemed more open and at ease now. It was a long time since he had been away from everything. It was almost pleasant to confide with a stranger he’d most likely never meet again.

Dana Laughed once under her breath. “Or maybe you just don’t know how old I am?” She offered, posture relaxing slightly. “Either way, you still look like a rowdy youth to me. Not all bad things there, even if I’m not ‘old’ I feel old. These younger Tokota who come in now they’re just all p*ss and vinegar. They don’t know anything about the world.” She lowered her ears with a sigh. “Between me and you, I wish everyone would just relax, if everyone kept to their own business and stopped killing every d**ned soul that crossed their path, the world would be a better place and I could actually get some sleep for once.”

“I guess.” She paused. “But in the end I don’t do it for the money, no money is worth what I do. The only thing it does is make sure I can still eat. I created our branch with the help of that annoying ex-coworker. I do this because I want to make a  difference. I want people to be safe. People like you sure make that job a lot harder you know. Though again if I’m being honest, you aren’t really our focus. We have bigger fish to fry, you’re rather small in the large pond of dangerous Tokota.” She listen and gave a ‘hmm’. “Well, he sounds like a real piece of work. Sadly some of our executives can cause bigger problems than the people we try to take down. That’s what power does to ya I guess.”

“Hey, it wouldn’t be the first time my group has helped people get out of bad situations. Nothing is impossible, and nothing is truly stopping you if you put your mind to it. But I do know one thing, you stay at bad places than bad things will happen.” She shrugged. “Just letting you know. Tokota can’t run forever.”
