Description

Hey Howdy Hey!

Gosh! It's good to be back! Into the next part! GO!!

Back again at the secret waterhole, Argus was troubled. What was once a large lake of cool, life-saving water, was now a little less than a pond. The years spent with Hume, while fulfilling, were nonetheless, taxing. Since he'd met Hume, his water usage had doubled, and soon enough, there would be nothing left. Disheartened, Argus turned towards home silently. Hume took one last look at the water in deep contemplation, then followed.

Back at the base, Argus sat on the steps of his hand-made rocket. For so long, his only dream was to leave this forsaken planet. But the more he thought about it, but more foolish his idea became. After all, where would he go? Gilese had to be long dead like Earth by now.

Hume popped his head out of the window behind the house. He gave a quick whimper, and Argus' ear twitched. Argus lifted his head, noticing that the sun was just about to rise. "Bedtime" he remembered.

Cuddled up against Hume on a large, musty sofa, Argus dreamt about his old life on Gilese. The crashing waves, the dark and gloomy skies, his old cave--damp, cold, dark...perfect. A memory stirred. A girl washed onto the shore of his cave, her skin--bruised and battered. Her eyes, desperate. Her touch, soft. Her voice, gentle.

"...Crystal..." he muttered.

At the crack of dawn the next morning, Argus set out once more accompanied by Hume. Their journey was back to the watering hole once more. But when they came to the pier, Argus dropped the empty watering tanks. Hume fell to his knees. Both their expressions--pure horror.

The watering hole was completely dry.

Argus tensed his tendrils, then let out a loud, frustrated shriek that made Hume jump to his feet. This was it. The last straw. Suddenly, nothing mattered to him anymore. Not even Hume. Argus dashed for home was far as his stubby legs could take him, while Hume followed closely behind, his ugly, purple face going pale with fright.

Rather than starting for home, Argus ran towards the homemade rocket. Realizing what Argus was about to do, Hume threw off his cloak, and ran straight for the door to the rocket, turned around, and splayed his arms outwards in an attempt the block Argus' path.

Argus was furious. "Get out of my way, Hume!"

Hume shook his head and held Argus's intense gaze.

"Hume! I can't stay on this miserable planet anymore! I'm warning you! Get out of my way or I'll kill you!" screamed Argus.

Hume's stance buckled slightly, then held once again. He wailed something incomprehensible, then burst into tears. "DoM MeV Me!" he cried.

Argus staggered, realizing just now what he'd said. How could he have been so foolish? If he'd left, how would Hume, his only friend, get by? Without Hume, what would become of himself? He'd be back to being alone again. Back to that emptiness. Unable to go, but hardly wishing to stay, Argus collapsed to the ground, now in tears as well. Hume sniffed, walked up to Argus, and draped himself across his only friend in a hug. They held each other tightly, silently, fearing the moment they'd have to let go, and face their horrible reality once again.
