Merric is a relatively relaxed kind of guy. In risk of sounding terribly corny, he follows his heart. If he feels he should do something, he goes for it. For the most part, he backs up his instincts with logic. And does he have logic. Don't let his lax look fool you, the man is a genious. He has an IQ of 130 and if anyone ever tries telling him otherwise, he lets them know what's up. If you know what I mean. These kinds of behaviors spawned in Merric at a relatively young age. He went through all of elementary and middle school being picked on by the 'cool kids' for being smart and more than a little nerdy looking (his mother was insistant on him tucking in his shirt and always looking tidy. His father was intent on making sure he was always wearing flannel somewhere on his body). By the time his last year of middle school rolled around, he was sick of all the teasing. He had long since tried to stand up for himself, only to get knocked back down by the kids that were bigger and stronger then he was. He watched as those kids just kept getting bigger and stronger until he couldn't tolerate it anymore. During the summer between his last year of middle school and his first year of high school, Merric hit a growth spurt. On top of that growth spurt, he got up every morning at the crack of dawn and worked out. And worked out. And worked out. He did this all summer and by the time school rolled around again, he was almost unrecognizable.
Needless to say, people stopped picking on him. They also stopped picking on others who weren't as fortunate as Merric to have the blood of a long line of lumberjacks because they knew that he wouldn't stand for it. Unfortunately, the smaller guys were all terrified of him, so he never really found friends in them. He couldn't stand the morons who associated with him because of his involvement in a large majority of the sports teams at his school. He couldn't stand his teachers all acting like they knew what the hell they were doing. By the time he got to his junior year of high school, he couldn't take it anymore. With solid A's and a crap ton of scholarships coming his way for sports and academics, Merric dropped out of high school to go and find a better calling then what was expected of him.
For a while he just wandered around. He contemplated going on the standard pokemon journey (he found his first pokemon, Rhenium, at a young age when he was stranded in a storm. Will be expanded on later), but that didn't seem quite right. He moved out of his parent's house and wandered his region until he decided to join team Aqua. The battle between team Aqua and team Magma intruiged him, mostly because he thought it was ridiculous. He didn't really believe in either teams ideals, he just really wanted something to do. Within his team he was well liked because he was friendly to them, but intimidating to the people he needed to take from. Whoever was on Merric's team always thought they were assured victory.
But then Merric got defeated by some stupid kid who didn't mind their own damn business. ANd he hated it. He wasn't used to not being the best at what he did. He always knew there had to be people out there that were better then him, he just never met them. Once that one kid beat him, he dropped out of team Aqua and decided to go on that pokemon journey. Merric didn't capture a terrible amount of pokemon, only the ones he liked. But with those pokemon he razed the gyms and Elite Four of Hoenn. After turning down the offer to become the new Champion, he went to Jhoto to try and find a better challenge. Again, he plowed through the gyms and the Elite Four. And again he declined becoming the Champion of the region.

He returned to Hoenn, still restless. He decided to go back to his home of Mossdeep and see if he could find anything to do a little closer to home. After being gone for so long he wanted to be a little closer to home. He came home to learn that his father, a lumberjack, had been crushed and killed by a falling tree. Where Merric loved his father, he knew it was the way that his dad wanted to go. It didn't help that he found it ironically funny that his father died that way. He mourned for the loss of a great man, but he didn't let it deter him. He also came home to learn that his mother had picked up and left when his father died and she took his little sister with her. He got back in contact after awhile, but his mother decided she didn't want to move back to Mossdeep when she had such a successful career elsewhere.

Merric, in desperate need of a job to pay for living expenses because his money made from battling was running low, got a job in the mail room of the space station in Mossdeep. He didn't mind the job. It was alright and he got to meet a lot of interesting people. What he didn't like was how monotonous it was. One day, when he was delivering mail to a particular scientist who had been trying to master an equation on some sort of aerodyamnics, Merric decided he was done delivering mail. He looked over the equation and solved it in a matter of minutes. The scientist, who had spent over a month trying to figure out the complex equation, was impressed. He brought Merric to the head of his division and demanded that Merric be given a better job. The head looked at the solved equation and decided that he would give Merric a shot at a better job then mail boy.

Merric didn't let them down. He was so dedicated to his job that he passed the opportunity to join the UBF despite his love of battling. However, he is done sitting by the sidelines now. He is itching for a good fight and is ready to take on anyone who challenges him.

Despite Merric's cocky outward appearance and arrogant childhood, he is a very loving person. He would go to the ends of the earth for the people (and pokemon) he cares about. He defends those who cannot defend themselves and he likes helping people gain confidence in themselves so they can learn to be their own person and grow strong. If he sees someone in trouble, he won't hesitate to save them.

Arsenic, Blaziken, Female- Arsenic, to put it bluntly, hates anyone who isn't Merric. She thinks that anyone else doesn't have the right to be anywhere near him, which causes problems within the team as well as in social situations. She wasn't his first pokemon, but she constantly insists on being the pokemon that he is most seen with. She decided that Merric was worth dedicating her life to when she watched him defeat a horde of zangoose that tried attacking her when she was just a Torchic. She followed him ever since.

Rhenium, Metagross, None- Rhenium LOVES people. It tries to cuddle as much as it possibly can. However, its size often deters people or scares them away. Rhenium was Merric's very first pokemon, but because of its size it tends to stay in its pokeball when he is out and about. Merric and Rhenium met on a stormy night. Merric, who had gotten so upset about all the teasing he got at school and his parents not doing anything about it, had tried to run away. However, he fell down a small cliff and landed near an abandonned alcove. With a sprained ankle and a possibly broken arm, Merric made for the shelter. Not soon after, it started pouring. As Merric sat there wondering if he was ever going to be found, he saw a shape just floating out in the rain. He couldn't tell what it was, but he knew that he wouldn't want to be stuck out in the rain. So Merric limped his way over and helped the shape into the cave. Rhenium, a Beldum at the time, immediately latched on to Merric and never left his side after that day. Merric was eight years old.

Radon, Machamp, Male- Radon was a standard capture for Merric when Radon was a Machop. Merric prefers to catch his pokemon in their first stages so he can train them how he likes and can form a more withstanding bond with them. He decided to capture Radon because the pokemon put up such a valient fight despite his size. Radon and Merric became fast friends and can now often be seen striking ridiculous poses together when they are about to battle.

Selenium, Sharpedo, Female- Selenium is a very friendly Sharpedo. Where Rhenium loves humans, Selenium loves anything that breathes. She tries her best to be friendly and loving, but she tends to only end up physically hurting others because she can't really control her rough skin. Selenium was given to Merric when he was in team Aqua and she was a Carvanah. At that point she didn't like other pokemon, let alone humans. But Merric's loving nature led her to quickly change her mind.

Cobalt, Manectric, Male- Cobalt hates the world and everything in it, especially Merric. When he was a pup he was split from his family and badly hurt. Merric saved him and did his best to try and help the little guy find his family, but to no success. Cobalt begrudgingly followed Merric after that, having nowhere else to go. Often times he blames Merric for his being split up from his family, thus his strong distaste for the man. He rarely shows any sort of affection and he likes everything else even less then he likes Merric. He sticks around with his trainer because he feels that, even though he thinks Merric is dumb despite his IQ, Merric is the only creature he deems worthy enough to train him.

Acier, Scizor, Male- Acier is, at best, a flirt. He was a traded to Merric. He traded Eclat for Acier for his very good friend Avenir. Merric is a little unsure about Avenir's motives behind it (sometimes he thinks it was because Acier made Ancien very, VERY uncomfortable) but he appreciates the gift all the same. Merric does his best to not let Acier get too 'familiar' with others if they seem like they are uncomfortable with his behaviors. Despite Merric constantly being a block for him, Acier adores the guy. He loves Merric's attitude and disposition. He also loves how aggressively Merric battles.
