Description
Craig "Buckaroohawk" Frey created a 3D render based upon Andrew Probert's painting "Enterprise Incidents", and named it "Reflections after Probert". He got into SOTL with it, earning the cover page. On the shoulders of giants, I decided to do a little homage...Models by me

I never liked Disney films. Even as a kid, they had something that just made me turn away. Maybe the drawing style, or the bowdlerization of classic fairy tales...

Well lion king is no classic fairy tale at all
but if the drawing style doesn't convince you, there is nothing to be done. It's a pity though

I don't know if it's Disney or not, but I really liked The Incredibles. Seeing it as an adult was much more fun as if I were a kid. Also Toy Story and Toy Story 3 (I haven't seen 2). The third movie brought me to tears, several times. And Cars, for the adorable characters.

Those films are owned by Disney, but made by Pixar Animation studios
And I felt the same about those movies as well

Gorgeous Homage!!! I just bought the new calendar and I think I like yours better. It is a great calendar as always though. I do keep hoping someway, somehow your work will eventually make it in there. You sure do deserve it!

Thank you very much!
The problem is that 1, there are loads of better, more seasoned 3D-ers and 2, I pissed off Alain Rivard, probably the second biggest guru and regular SOTL contributor. So I don't think I'll see my stuff in SOTL. But I will always try.

You're very welcome! If I may be so bold, and if you don't mind answering, how did you piss off Alain Rivard? And sorry to hear that somehow you did so. My sympathies. Well, even if you never make it into SOTL, you work if still very, very awesome and great to see. And to me it will ALWAYS deserve to be in SOTL. It's their loss.
Have a very merry Christmas!!

It was in March or so, a week before I started this gallery. Rivard published his magnificent models, most importantly his Reliant. I converted them to 3DS Max and we were planning to relese the conversions. We only needed to do something about upload size limitations, because the conversions were huge. On ScifiMeshes, a guy wanted to make an animation with the Reliant (I think it was the Reliant, doesn't really matter, actually...) and asked me if I could send him a copy. So I did, thinking it is a pre-release copy, why fuss about things when the "official" release is due in a few days, probably. Rivard thought otherwise. As he learned that I sent the animator a copy, he was infuriated. I was banned from a couple of sites (including 3D Gladiators, which I don't understand, I visited that site like every two months), and in a few days, I became the Undesirable Number One of the 3D world. Hence then, I'm using my own models only, except for a few Poser hair models for my figures, and those too with explicit permission...

Whoops....
To quote a phrase...."I hate it when that happens!"
Thanks for sharing the details of the event. Sounds like an accident that Mr. Rivard took too hard and then over reacted about.
Does this come under the heading.. " Good intentions, Bad execution...." ?
I'm sorry this happened to you, and my sympathies for the over response and damage to your reputation that came from it. You're still number one in my book though!! Mistakes happen.

Thank you very much for the support!
I really did not mean to cause harm. I mean, why would I do so, against somebody I don't even know. I know my model give-away policies are more liberal than those of the pros (yeah, me, the die-hard conservative commie admitting some liberalism ), but I still can't see why Rivard thought the world is ending. I couldn't help myself and quoted Lenin:
"Machines and other improvements must serve to ease the work of all and not to enable a few to grow rich at the expense of millions and tens of millions of people".
Let's just say, they weren't altogether fond of me after this little quotation

Yeah...I can only imagine how well THAT didn't go over. Oh well. It's a good and appropriate quotation though!

So I take it you're hoping to get in SOTL too or do you just make these for the hell of it?

1, For the hell of it. Why not
2, To test my abilities
3, I was told that my stuff is nice but not yet up to SOTL standards. I'm attempting to improve myself.

You're one of those artists. I see. "Doing it to improve my abilities and ending up on a calender would be nice but not what I had in mind." Maybe you should make your own calender.

That's the spirit! However if you're gonna name it that, I suggest staying away from the more famous ships like enterprise, excelsior, voyager, et cetra, et cetra...
