Description
2363: The Galaxy class starship enters into service after a long design and testing period. Twelve ships are planned.2365: The class is cut back to six ships, given the massive resources needed for construction and operation.
2367: The Battle of Wolf 359 makes Starfleet realize the new dangers the Galaxy poses. Massive weapons RnD projects are initiated.
2373: The outbreak of the Dominion War. Starfleet, in desperate need of heavy warships, completes the six remaining Galaxy class cruisers. The six ships are half-finished only, with basically only the propulsion and weapons systems installed. The end of the war sees the remaining three of the vessels being mothballed.
2381: The Borg Invasion decimates the Federation and Starfleet.
2383: The refitted USS Polaris NCC-782 confirms the existence of a sporadic Borg Remnant. Captain Kirsten Heimann openly proposes the construction of starships dedicated to interstellar warfare.
2386: The mothballed Galaxy class vessels are outfitted with massive new weapons systems, including transphasic technology. Enhanced tactical and defensive systems are also installed. Many in Starfleet are of the opinion that the new Galaxy-X Dreadnoughts killed the optimism of the original class.
2387: The USS Resolute is launched. Named after the famous HMS Resolute of the Eugenics Wars, the Dreadnought is sent out to defend the Federation in a Galaxy that becomes more hostile day by day...

I always wondered what those antennae-like things were, protruding from the upper part of the saucer section.
A ECM array?
A new weapon system?
Signature of an Andorian shipwright?

I think that is the only way for the Star Trek franchise to be alive again: Take DS9 to the extreme and find out how the federation can keep up its ideals in a galaxy that is falling to pieces.

The "Future" Enterprise was always one of my favorite ships. The phaser cannon was just something else on that ship~
