Description
USS Ackerman chief staff:- Captain Thelin th'Valrass (Andorian thaan): A veteran of many multi-year missions, Captain Thelin is one of the fathers of a more famous Andorian of the TOS era. He is a master tactician and was chosen as the Captain of the Ackerman due to his experience and brilliant sense of tactics and strategy. He has a snappy command style but is highly respectful of his crewmates, regardless of rank.
- First officer/CMO: Dr. Mary McCormack (Human female, Lt. Cmdr.): An Irishwoman in her early forties, Dr. McCormack is horrified by the Klingons' brutality. She is chosen as First Officer because of her good people management skills, compensating for Thelin's more militaristic approach.
- Helm: Takeyoshi Hamada (Human male, Temp. Ens.): A twenty-something smuggler turned temporary Starfleet officer after his cargo ship, the SS Innocence was ambushed by the Klingons. In an almost penal battalion sort of way, he was promised freedom if he helps Starfleet's war effort with his knowledge of hidden subspace corridors and hidey-holes. He has feelings for T'Lann but refuses to confess them, fearing what will happen if he ever does so.
- Chief engineer: Iori Grishnak (Tellarite female, Lt. Cmdr.): Engineers are a cantankerous lot, and Tellareites are even more. so. Combine the two and you get the chief engineer of the Ackerman. She takes personal insult in the Klingons attacking her ship and never misses to point this out in rather politically incorrect ways.
- Tactical/OPS: Benjamin Satchel (Human male, Chief Warrant Officer): Demoted from Lt. Cmdr. because of an incident that left a high-profile Federation diplomat dead, the thirty-five year old Benjamin Satchel was given a second chance with the onset of the Klingon War. Seeking atonement for his mistakes, he offered his services to any front-line starship that would take a disgraced officer, and Captain Thelin offered him the chance.
- Science: Jackson Archer (Human male, Lt.): The grandson of the legendary Jonathan Archer, Jackson chose a life of science instead of command like his grandfather. He is a sort of moral compass to the crew, and is not afraid to quote from family history about how even the darkest times could turn bright. His face has some Oriental features, due to her grandmother, Hoshi Sato.
Survivors of the 101st Cadet Corps:
- Ellie Hurst (Human female, science): Ellie is destined to be one of the Federation's greatest minds, if she could unlock her potentials. She is autistic and does not speak, using a complex set of glyphs to communicate, translated by her customized PADD. Her mind cannot differentiate between past, yet can interpret all possible outcomes of a certain scenario. She keeps her reddish-blonde hair shaved to a buzz-cut because she gets rather aggressive tantrums when she touches hair. This leaves her with an almost androgynous appearance.
- T'Lann, daughter of T'Lissa (Vulcan female, science): T'Lann was not accepted into the Vulcan Expeditionary Fleet because of her sub-par records, but was gladly accepted to Starfleet Academy. While she tries to hide it, she is full of self-doubt. Her life changed when she mind-melded with Ellie who was having one of her outbursts. This event left her reconsider everything she believed in and vowed to protect Ellie even at the cost of her own life.
- Kolo (Xindi-Reptilian male, tactical): The first Xindi ever to attend Starfleet Academy, Kolo was an outsider from the beginning. While he comes from a family that never supported the Sphere Builders, he has to live on with his race's legacy, and was often reminded of that. He however managed to earn his peers' trust, and even respect, by helping them survive when the Klingons attacked.
- Ardoso Akhwenolo Sherna Meiwoo (Phloeran male, engineering): Coming from a pro-Klingon non-aligned world, he is torn between his family's past and the knowledge of what his race did in aiding the Klingons. He is a loner, coming from a regimented people that rivals real-life North Korea, and has knowledge of the dreaded new Klingon superweapon, the D7 class.
- Oria Xhoi (Human / cyborg female, science): Having diagnosed with epilepsy that would have otherwise left her dead in childhood, Oria was given brain implants to combat her condition. Later on, she began augmenting herself to overcome real and perceived weaknesses. She can interact between Starfleet and alien tech and improves herself by adding bits and pieces of them every now and then. Her implants surround her with a background noise of clicks and whirls, something that many find unsettling.
- Miorrin (Tiburonian male, engineering): Coming from a blue-collar background, he is the first in his family to get higher education. He often uses his skills he picked up from his family of mechanics, driving Chief Engineer Grishnak crazy. Although he often feels himself under pressure, he's a Tiburonian, so he's always ready to have fun.
Episode guide:
01: The day our world ended
The USS Ackerman, a front-line destroyer picks up the survivors of the 101st Cadet Corps, whose base was destroyed in a Klingon assault. The cadets join the Ackerman crew in their new mission: obtaining intelligence on the new Klingon D7 battlecruiser.
02: Baptism by fire
The Ackerman dares uncharted space when rumors of a new Klingon shipyard in the area begin to spread. The lone Starfleet ship must face the might of the Klingon fleet alone, counting on nothing more than the crew's skills.
03: Blood pact
A rift begins to appear amongst the Ackerman crew, with one party being pro-war and the other opting for a more peaceful, diplomatic approach. The cadets are caught up in this schism and must decide which path to follow when Starfleet intelligence finds the Klingon captain responsible of the attack on their training facility.
04: Thoughts of self-harm
When a damaged D7 cruiser is found drifting in unclaimed space, the Ackerman crew must race with time to obtain as much information on it as they can. Secrets are revealed of Ardoso's past and Oria risks her life when she tries to fuse her body's tech with that of the Klingon ship.
05: The beast that devours
Hamada, Satchel, T'Lann and Kolo infiltrate a Klingon POW camp to organize a mass breakout. They must face the brutality of the guards and the loss of dignity of the POWs. While their plan is successful, the experience leaves them with a changed outlook on the war and on the world.
06: Pick up the gun
With the war raging for months now and no end is to be seen, the Ackerman crew's pro-war "Hawks" confront the anti-war "Doves. Fuelled by the recent events, the crew must choose: hang together or be hanged separately. Friendships are torn apart and both the best and worst are brought forth from the crew that became veterans all too early.
07: I have spoken
A Klingon assault leaves Captain Thelin, Ellie and T'Lann stranded on a Klingon-occupied planet. Ellie's translator PADD is broken and she and Thelin must learn a way to communicate in order to survive and contact the Ackerman. T'Lann helps her Captain join minds with Ellie, for him to discover that she perceives the world on a multidimensional plane, outside of space-time.
08: Toll the bells
With the Federation slowly gaining the upper hand in the War, the Ackerman joins her sister ships, the destroyers Jaeger, Arlert and Kirstein to make a final push into Klingon-occupied Federation space.
09: Sacrifice your hearts
The Jaeger Destroyer Group suffers major losses at the hands of the Klingons, but the damaged ships must soldier on in enemy space. Having to face the dreaded D7 cruisers once again, the Ackerman's crew must face the horrifying fact that not all of them will come home again.
10: Graduation day
After the heroic efforts of Starfleet, the Klingon War is finally over. The survivors of the Ackerman must deal with a new world that they suddenly find themselves in. A new era, that of the Federation-Klingon Cold War had begun, and the cadets are appointed as the first new officers of this new age of history.

I have thought about it, listended to it and I think I may have found some music that I think would've worked had 'Star Trek Ackerman' been a short series on TV. The music is by Thomas Newman and it was originally used in the Netflix Movie/Documentary 'Five Came Back': www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9AtlD…
0:00 - 1:21 would be where the main titles are seen with an overview of the man cast and in the background could be a rapid veiw of the USS Ackerman being constructed and later early battles during the war.
1:21 - 2:32 the End Credits, these end credits would be normal throughout the series.

More facts about Takeyoshi Yamada
- He is the youngest of five siblings and one of two members of his family to leave the Sol System, the majority of his family still resides in the Sol System. His father runs and operates a salvage operation in the system, with most of his family investing themselves in the family business. His family operate a small fleet of moderized DY-100's retrofitted for salvage operations, although some of his siblings moonlight as middlemen for smugglers seeking to get items in and out of the system.
- Takeyoshi joined up with his first smuggling crew when he was eighteen, he was recruited primarily for his skill in piloting. His first crew split ways when their ship was impounded on smuggling charges by authorities and he would join up with another crew afterwards, the SS Innocence was his sixth vessel at the time of their run in with the Klingons.
- Takeyoshi's elder sister, Hikari Yamada would end up becoming a pirate/smuggler who would run rampant in Federation/Klingon territory for a number of years until her capture by Starfleet shortly before Takeyoshi was recruited as a temporary ensign on board the USS Ackerman, after the war's end he would visit his sister whenever he could to convince her to change her ways.

More info
- Takeyoshi is not a pushover when thrusted into close quarters combat, as a smuggler had had access to a multitude of weapons both legal and illegal to train himself with. While not as skilled as a Starfleet Marine, Takeyoshi is more than capable of taking on most opponents via his skills from his years as a smuggler and his tendency to fight dirty with one of his favorite methods being the use of powdered glass.
- Despite his time as smuggler and his usage of dirty fighting methods, Takeyoshi does enjoy real Asian tea and cuisine when he can get it. He enjoys collecting old movies and anime from before the third world war, his impressive collection came with him when he joined the crew of the Ackerman. Takeyoshi will often break out pieces of his collection for use when the crew needed something to get their minds off of the war and the fighting, though the command staff had the right to deny of any thing he wished to show.
"Hate to tell you this Captain, but only fools get into fair fights these days and I doubt any of us on the Ackerman are fools." Takeyoshi addressing Captain Thelin offhandedly

Goodness, this guy just steals the show.
Of course, he survives and gets the girl. Yeah, he and T'Lann are a thing by the end

Feel free to use that quote at some point.
I even had an idea for an event during the Ackerman's voyage; it features this nebula that is littered with debris, wrecks and asteroids that the Smugglers had managed to create a path through the nebula safely via short ranged navigation beacons. This nebula could be used in a surprise attack made by the Ackerman and her sister ships against the Klingons, what better surprise then having all four Jaeger class Destroyers emerge from the nebula that even their bird of preys couldn't penetrate without massive casualties.

I like this!
BTW, the final roster of survivors from the main "cast":
- McCormack - remains the XO/CMO
- Satchel - becomes the new Captain of the Ackerman, having redeemed himself during the final Battle of the Mempa System
- Archer - remains the science officer of the Ackerman
- Hamada - Decides to remain in Starfleet and on the Ackerman, promoted to Lt.
- Hurst - leaves the Ackerman, having leanred how to survive on her own. Stays in contact with T'Lann. She even learns to speak
- T'Lann - marries Hamada, switches to Tactics, realizing not all Vulcans need to be scientists. She finally accepts her flaws and embraces both logic and emotion.
- Meiwoo - Becomes the Ackerman's new chief engineer
- Miorrin - Becomes Chief Engineer aboard the USS Arlert
And those who don't survive the war:
- Thelin: sacrifices himself when the Klingons board the ship during the final battle. His last words are "My children, live well and love well, eat well and sleep well, knowing that today, we made a stand".
- Grishnak: dies during the penultimate episode, while preventing a fatal Warp core breach
- Kolo: Dies while helping Thelin. T'Lann and Hurst take his body back to New Xindus, earning the Xindi's ultimate respect toward the Federation
- Xhoi: her physical body dies after she uses her cybernetics to bring a damaged Ackerman online again. Her consciousness departs into subspace, becoming an ascended entity.

I think in episode 05 either during or after, Takeyoshi will finally confess his feelings for T'Lann. In Episode 07, Takeyoshi is worried for both the captain, T'Lann and Ellie. If he survives the war, I think he would continue to serve in Starfleet and would later lead an anti-smugglers taskforce, though whether or not that he gets the girls is your decision as T'Lann is your character
When I imagined Takeyoshi, I came up with a hybridized version of Hikaru Sulu and Han Solo.

I actually have a story planned out for them. He will confess to T'Lann in a way he didn't even know the significance of. They are on a desert planet, dehydrated. Even T'Lann is suffering, and her race evolved in such harsh conditions. Takeyoshi promises her that he will always be there to provide her with water. He will make sure she won't have to thirst again. Little does he know that a man promising that to a woman on Vulcan is basically proposing to her.
