Description

Catherine drew a deep breath, taking in the lovely smell of the ocean breeze as it blew over Ruby Beach. The sun was as close to directly overhead as it could get this far north, and the beach didn’t have too many people on it. Catherine continued her stroll, letting the waves from the outgoing tide lap over her feetpaws. She spotted something out the corner of her eye, a shiny blue rock. She paused for a moment, wondering if it was actually some sort of gemstone. She shrugged after a moment and went to pick it up, only for a hot feeling to radiate up her arm before the rock disappeared. “Oh, I see how it is,” she said to herself, noticing her legs and tail beginning to fuse together. While she still could, she ran out into the north Pacific Ocean.
She managed to drag herself up onto a rock off the shore as her lower limbs finished merging, the fur on them disappearing as they became a smooth, black and white orca tail, which destroyed her pants. Webbing developed between her fingers as her respiratory system reconfigured to let her breathe both above and below water, and her shirt turned light blue and shrank until it was something like the top of a swimsuit that wrapped around the bottom of her shoulders to the mid-ribs. Catherine looked over her new form for a moment before turning her gaze towards the sea, and her fluked tail flopped against the rock on which she perched. Maybe today would be even better than she first thought.
