It doesn't seem to bother me since I know that the Battle Network series doesn't share the same continuity. It's also kind of like the Legends game where it also has the same named characters.
The only variation Roll doesn't appear in is the X series but I did laugh when some people thought Zero was Roll at first.

Yep found it out from a youtuber name Clement's let's play video. He said he found it ridiculous how when the game had just game out people said "Hey it's the upgraded Roll!" Poor Zero.
Yeah I get ya, heck this universes made me confused about the original Roll and Megaman. Originally I thought they were a couple but when I found out they were actually siblings I got so confused.
