Tutorial 1: Gyulkus (bottom right of the overall sketch)

Part 1:

Visualize the pose of the character. I want Gyulkus to look like a beast, prepared for battle and maybe initiating a battle with a bloodthirsty roar. Therefore he has to look like a mad, bloodthirsty, armed and dangerous beast.
My first step of drawing (mostly humanoid) characters (aside from scribbling down sketches) is to create some kind of wire frame, where i can draw different parts of the body on the different parts of the frame. Note that the frame has a round head and that I attached a cone to that head in order to arrange the facing direction of the character (I use that cone only with characters like lizardmen or other creatures that do not have a flat face like humans).

Aside from that, it is very important to know the aspect ratios of humanoid bodyparts if it comes to draw humanoid creatures and characters. Therefore it would be a huge advantage to know a bit about anatomy and lenghts and proportions of the human body.
