Description
Inspiration always hits me at the strangest of times, alright? Sorry to say this is kind of an antagonist character. You will see.Brief Biography
Among the Chosen of El, the primordial angel being of Orbia, three angels in particular stand out as His favorites. Metatron is one of those three, alongside Luciel and another angel whose identity remains a secret at this time. Luciel and Metatron were actually very close initially, but unfortunately, pride ended up being the thing that drove a massive wedge and forever changed the course of Orbia's history.
Among many of El's angels, Metatron was always at the forefront. A valorous warrior, Metatron had the combat prowess and martial skills to prove why he was favored by El. However, as mentioned, it was pride that eventually contributed to Luciel attempting to combine holy and daemon energies together, creating the very first fallen angel. Metatron initially did not believe his close friend would fall, but upon seeing what Luciel had become, it changed Metatron in a number of ways, and to some extent, in a negative (pun intended) light
Although Metatron faced off against his former best friend, the horrors he fought had clearly impacted him. El's sacrifice to permanently imprison Luciel also contributed to Metatron's change in character. Metatron was never afraid to throw himself into battle, but these days, it felt like reckless zeal more than anything else. Furthermore, the sight of Luciel's forces (comprising of fallen angels, daemons, and some enthralled humans) laying waste to the Heavens he had fought to protect had developed a strong prejudice against them. Losing his mentor and best friend had clearly changed him, and while Metatron was still respected for his fighting ability, his anger outbursts and overall hardline stances have alienated him from his fellow angels.
As he was a favored of El, Metatron believed he should be leading the angels in the aftermath of the War in Heaven, but his personality and hardline beliefs have not endeared him to his own kindred. Needless to say, Metatron was denied a seat in the newly formed Angelic Council, with Haniel taking the spot for representing El's angels of light. Saying that Metatron was angered beyond reason would be an understatement. Metatron nearly caused a second War in Heaven just cause of it, but after remembering El's words of protecting the Heavens, Metatron relented. However, the split from the Angelic Council was not a amicable one, and Metatron left (alongside some light angels who followed him), warning the Angelic Council that they have signed the warrant for their doom for excluding him.
Metatron left the Heavens alongside the most zealous of his followers, forming the Yarash (inherit in the Hebrew language). They have not been seen since, but there have been reports of fanatically zealous angels operating in Orbia and Pandemonium. However, any ways to tie these sightings to the Yarash have never been proven.
Personality and Traits
A lot of angels have noted that before the War in Heaven, Metatron was a completely different person. Although he can still come off as arrogant and conceited due to his favored position with El, Metatron was at least accommodating to his fellow angels, and in turn, they defer combat strategy and expertise to him.
The War in Heaven has brought out Metatron's negative traits, which was not helped with seeing his mentor's sacrifice, his best friend's transformation to Orbia's biggest threat, and the destruction of the Heaven by Luciel's forces. The arrogance he had was further amplified since then, with a strong prejudice of what he deemed (lesser beings) and believing that as a favored of El, he should be leading the angels in the aftermath of the War in Heaven.
Another problematic aspect of Metatron is that he only thinks in extremes (good or bad, black or white, etc), and this is another reason why outside of his zealous followers, none of his fellow angels want anything to do with him. This is also reflected with how he leads the Yarash: obedience to his will above everything else, and any insubordination is severely punished. This inflexible way of thinking was the exact reason why he was denied a seat in the Angelic Council, and even Metatron's subordinates are notorious sycophants, mainly out of fear.
Powers and Abilities
There is no denying that Metatron is a warrior at heart, and his combat abilities was the reason he was favored greatly by El. Although he can appear like a reckless hothead, Metatron is actually capable of strategy and direct forces to fight. Unfortunately, his abilities are hampered by his main flaw: arrogance. While in the past, Metatron will gladly jump straight into a fight without thinking, these days he will usually let the Yarash take care of things, only saving himself to fight worthy foes. In his words, he would not sully his hands to fight "lesser beings".
Metatron's preferred weapon is a polearm, whose name was never revealed. Metatron is notoriously fluid with his movements when swinging his polearm around. In addition, while Metatron is not a pure spellcaster, he can apply strength magic on himself without incantation, which makes him a difficult opponent to face, as he can easily transfer his magic potential to quickly cover for defense or channel them into a powerful thrust.
Metatron's signature move is a thrust attack. The Yarash know better than to get in his way, which is a telltale sign that he is going to use it. Simply known as "Artelif" (Crown Cannon), Metatron gets into a stance, as he channels magic power into the blades of his polearm. Although it looks like he's thrusting his spear into his opponent, it's actually more like a powerful magic beam cannon that will wipe out anything in the way of the beam's path (think of it as Enuma Elish using Cu's Gae Bolg). As noted, even the Yarash will flee when they sense Metatron preparing to use Artelif.
In a boss fight, Metatron will fight as a Light-element Lancer, so make sure to train your shadow-element teams before facing him, or Artelif may leave for you to salvage after he is done.
