The journey into the Cajan region was long and treacherous and our supplies were running dangerously low. The party’s moral was also at an all-time low, the hardships of the journey wearing them thin. I look around glumly something catching my eye. Sol was sitting on a jagged rock surveying the area with sharp hawk like eyes. I approach him, careful not to disturb his concentration. “What does your Fornlee eyes see Sol?” He cocks his head to the side slightly as if he did not hear me. “The temperature and air pressures are changing… I sense impeccable danger approaching.” A shiver runs down my spine as he spoke. “I also feel like something serious is about to go down. Do you think the party is prepared enough?” Sol hops down effortlessly from the rock and shakes his head. “I am afraid I do not have the answer Dune… Things seem dire. We are just about out of our supplies and the moral is an all-time low or non-existent.” I pat him on the shoulder as we continued into the inky black jungle. The foliage was as thick as wine and as damp as the morning dew. It was as if the air itself was an angry entity wanting to swallow the party whole. I felt my foot catch on an upturned root and my body lurched forward. Sol caught my elbow with a flash just in time and pulled me upright. “You gotta be more careful Dune. Wouldn’t want to see you in an early grave.” I laughed nervously. “Thanks bud hehe… yeah I don’t want to end up six feet under when things are about to get good.” All of a sudden, the ground starts to shake and all light goes out. We are all as blind as bats stumbling around in the darkness. “Sol?...SOL?” I reach out into the darkness trying to feel for my partner but my fingers touched nothing. I glance around wildly trying to find anybody or anything. Out of the corner of my eye I see a light peeking out of the darkness. I jolt forward full force running to the light. I burst through the tree line into a small clearing panting trying to catch my breath. “You have come” A dark and sinister voice rings out from the shadows. I turn to look at where the voice was coming from. A dark figure that looked strangely like an outline of myself, stood under a darkened tree shadow. I reached for my sword only to find it was missing from my belt. I turn back to the shadowy figure strangely to find it had gotten considerably closer. It seemed to mimic my every move. I moved my hand up and it reflected it with its own hand. Suddenly, it jumped forward charging towards me full speed. I ready myself, fists raised ready for the fight of my life. It was fast, almost unnaturally so. I dodge and weaved through the flourish of punches and kicks. I gave it a swift low kick tripping it to the ground. I come down hard with the heel of my foot. As soon as my attack landed the shadow figure disappeared as if it was never there. The rest of the party began to slowly one by one emerge from the forest damaged, but unharmed. Quest and Sol were one of the many who triumphed from the fight. We had won the day but not the war. It was not over... far from it.
