Description
If you read only one paragraph of the description, make sure it's this one! Firstly, this is not a thing Hasbro is making (and I would be flattered if you thought it was!). Secondly, I am not a trained designer; I am a trained musician! Thirdly, I could not have drawn this without ~Inkwell-Pony 's incredible study .The thought process that led me to make these was after an internal debate about whether I would seriously go into a shop and buy Hasbro's My Little Pony product. The answer was no, I wouldn't.
Hasbro's current toys (as far as I have seen, and correct me if I'm wrong) seem to be static models of how ponies have looked since the first generation, with only a rotating head for articulation. If you ask me, there's an age you reach when you're young when your imagination just doesn't cut it any more and you want your toys to be able to move their limbs and such. There's also an age when you're an adult and you start buying immovable satuette collectables again. I for one am between these two stages; I like my toys with a bit of articulation in them!
The design above is an idea cobbled together from my knowledge of Character Options' Doctor Who action figures (of which I own many), Hasbro's own G.I. Joes (of which I own a dozen) and Jazwares 3.5" Sonic the Hedgehog line (of which I own none). These ponies have about as much articulation as your average G.I. Joe, and the points are these: a ball-joints at the neck and the top of the front legs; a ratchet joint just below the top of the front legs to make for double-jointed, show accurate articulation; swivel joints in all four knees and the waist; and a double-jointed pivoty swivelly thing for the hind legs.
The bottom left corner details how each figure would come with two sets of front hooves: hooves for standing and hooves for posing. These would both screw in to the bottom of the front legs through the use of a bayonet fixture, like with light bulbs. Just above that is where I've detailed the underside of the hooves, where there is a small, horseshoe-shaped magnet to allow ponies to hold accessories (sold seperately). (Also, this is how I believe they hold things on the show! Invisible horseshoe magnets!... Yeah, you can see why I didn't base a comic around that.)
The bottom right corner demonstrates how Pegasuses would have their wings; by drilling two holes into the back, just below the neck, for ball joints. I've drawn two examples of wings ('flight' and 'rest') to show how different posing and personality would be achieved. Plus, I think ball-jointed wings for flying would be absolutely perfect.
That's pretty much all I have to say about this! Apart from, of course, HASBRO PLEASE MAKE THIS
PWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAASE

on a slightly related note, A firend of mine is modeling a pony transformer using the FiM design. This of course means he's going to have to design a transformation and make physical joints and such!

What pisses me off that even really shitty or obscure shows get decent looking show-accurate toys, then I take a look at MLP stuff and see all the inaccurate crap. I mean I saw decent Hero 108 action figures, I don't know about you but I don't think that show is good and popular enough to warrant a toy line yet there you have it, you can buy all the main characters and even side characters.

I think the difference is some shows (let's use your Hero 108 example) start as cartoons that get popular and so they have to make toys. MLP is the opposite; it's a toyline that has had a show based on it. Plus, popularity for a show about cartoon ponies, especially with people like us on the internet, is completely unprecedented. So it's understandable that Hasbro couldn't have predicted that it would boom this much and as such they haven't made quite the toys that people would expect. Still, there's always hope for the future!

There are G4 ponies with movable limbs, actually. I saw a picture of Rarity doing a split once...

I've just done an extensive search and I haven't seen any anywhere... but still, they're probably not articulated to this extent, right?

It was a while back...but all they could do was move their legs in different directions. So, no it wasn't. It was poorly made, I think. They looked okay when viewed from a side, but otherwise they're pretty big and clunky.

Nope, just movable limbs. They're not even accurate (though NONE of Hasbro's brushable G4 ponies are).

Oh, don't get me started on how not-show-accurate all the toys are! The only reason I've not gone into a nerdrage over it is because we don't even get the toys over this side of the pond anyway! (Yet.)

I really hope one day we will get decent toys like your concept.

Mystery solved! Though they only have four joints that don't move very well...
But thanks anyway! I'm glad I can count on your support should I ever head to Hasbro and demand satisfaction!

I think the hind legs should be ball jointed rather than swivel-jointed. I think it's workable AND it would provide more articulation.

I was thinking about the legs earlier, actually! I was thinking that maybe they should have some sort of combination ratchet/swivel so that it essentially makes a giant semi-sphere shaped "ball joint" plugged into the rump. Maybe I'll draw that tomorrow!

And if they were made officially, I would totally buy them. Posable toys >>>> solid-molded toys.

Pretty much. The beauty of a show like MLP is that, as long as you let them know your going to buy the merchandise, they typically go "Alright, if your gonna buy it, I suppose we can sell it." Particularly since, if they don't sell it, someone will.

To paraphrase Mel Brooks: Merchandising, where the real money from the show is made! Ponies the T-shirt, Ponies the colouring book, Ponies the lunch box, Ponies the breakfast cereal, Ponies the flamethrower! The kids love that one.
But seriously I'm thinking about starting a petition for this. The only thing stopping me is how self important I would sound: "I designed this, people want Hasbro to make it, let's all sign a petition" et cetera...

I'm always wary of trying to show my art to Ms Faust, because I'm sure she gets like 20 messages saying "Look at my art!" every minute.
As for Hasbro stealing it, technically they can... Despite me putting a lovely big copyright mark at the top, all fancruft reverts to the original copyright holder when a copyright claim is made. (I think.) So basically they can steal it if they want! And I'm not going to contest it because, hey! Cool new toys!

Seriously, I'm dumbfounded that Hasbro never looked into this. This is basically the toy equivalent of what Faust did with the show: why are girls' toys generally limited in poses while most other action figures can be posed to ones heart's content.
The only problem I see with this are the relatively small parts, but then again, nothing is stopping Hasbro from marketing this to a slightly older demographics and to open a can of lawyers to grace the box with a wall of disclaimers.

Maybe the intense positive reaction from the periphery demographic could force Hasbro's hoof... uh, hand! Hasbro is a company that is known for its pandering to the collectors' market; both Transformers and G.I. Joe have official conventions and several things hearkening back to the toyline's early days but as far as I can tell no such thing happens for Pony fans. So you never know; maybe if all of us bronies make enough noise, Hasbro will listen!
As for the small part issue, Hasbro's 3.5" lines have loads of small parts, many of them smaller than what I imagine I've designed here. One could easily lose a toy's hand or gun. I don't know how they get away with marketing things that small to kids, to be honest!
