Description I'm not really happy with this one.

This started out with my wanting to draw a building with onion domes. I've always been fascinated by them and thought it might be fun to try. Though my work tends to have a sort of whimsy to it this came out more so than I had wished. That having been said I decided to finish it anyway, though I did rush the grass a bit just to get the whole thing over with, and posted it because I think that it's good to share my failures as well as my successes.

Lesson learned : Always sketch things out first.

Done with pens and brush tipped markers on colored paper.

You should be happy with one because it's a great piece of art : )

over time it has grown on me, though it is still one of my least favorite pieces.Β

You call that "failed"?

I think this is really good!

thank you. Β It's just not what I had envisioned for the piece, but that art for you. Β Ideas so often take on a life of their own.

You know, your 'failure' just really makes me want to write a story It's amazingly creative, and yes, very whimsical, but that's what makes it so fun to look at ^^

Thank you. I'm glad that you enjoy it. Perhaps calling it a 'failure' is a bit harsh, it's just that it was ment to be a Temple, ( Three Moon Temple ) and I really didn't manage to convey that with this.

Ah, so it's a bit more like it went off on a tangent That makes sense.

It went so far off on a tangent that it ended up on the other side of the world.

It all begins
With a house on a hill.
Just a quirky little house, but still.
The adventure,
The excitement,
The pain and the mishaps
The laughter and the trials.
Laughing and crying,
All at the same time.
Unbearable pain and unimaginable joy,
Twisted skies and deceptive appearances,
Spirals and loops to lose yourself in,
Gravel path laid out so clear,
To that quirky little house on a hill.

It really is quite quirky

I absolutely adore this my friend. We should do a book together. Your words, my pictures. We'd make a fortune.

Like, oh, what was that book... The Invention of Hugo Cabret?

thelostboy13 In reply to Contradictory55 [2013-06-03 14:26:36 +0000 UTC]

YES. How that man managed to do so many sketches along with writing that book still amazes me. Without the sketches that book would have only been about 1/3 the size.

I was kind of expecting more writing actually. But yeah, those sketches were brilliant, along with the story.

Me too. I bought the book after seeing the movie and when I got a hold of it I was surprised at how little writing there actually was, cause it's a big damn book.

I see why you said it was a bit whimsical....
However,
1) Love the color in the background while the foreground is grey.
2) love the windows so damn much its not even funny.

Also; I was right.
You cant do whimsy without it looking like Dr. Seuss.

Thanks Alex. The background is in fact my favorite part of this and the one thing that I'm truly happy with. Definitely going to experiment with that again.

Disturbing 'fun fact' about the large circular window. Did it mostly freehand in pen, discovered early on that the part in the center looked a little too much like a swastika and had a hell of a time trying to cover it up. Must be more careful in the future.
