Aether is a custom Metroid OC which I originally made years ago, yet never managed to use. Recently this article was made by a friend of mine on Discord.

Biography
Aether, born as X-Zol, is a Luminoth that was corrupted by Phazon from by the Aether Leviathan. X-Zol originally had a enjoyable and loving childhood, despite the war going on, his family had been some of the only members not to go into refugee in the Great Temple. One day he went out to search for his sister, Z-Zol, who had gone missing a couple hours earlier. However he never managed to find her, no, instead he was the one who was lost. X-Zol got ambushed and possessed by an Ing, which took him into Dark Aether. The Ing Possesed X-Zol was then taken to the Dark Aether Levithan and left there, the Ing leaving his body. However as most people would die due to the planets nature, X-Zol didn’t, thanks to the Phazon.
The dangerous substance started to corrupt and mutate X-Zol, slowly, keeping his body in a coma like state for Twenty Three years. He was finally awaken from his slumber during the collapse of Dark Aether, X-Zol immediately made his escape. It was a close call, but he managed to escape successfully. He made his way to one of the Space Pirate bases on X-Zel, challenging the groups leader to combat, he won with ease. The remaining group agreed to make a deal with X-Zol, he would spare them and they’d take him to the Pirate Homeworld.
During the trip back home, the pirates learned that X-Zol was suffering from a bad injury. They didn’t have any medical expertise or equipment with them, only laboratory equipment and couple metroids.

The Metroids gave the pirates the idea to save him, they injected him with there DNA. The process worked without any negative effects and X-Zol was able to absorb some energy from the ship, in order to heal himself.

Once arriving at the Homeworld, X-Zol, now under the name Aether, was presented to the High Command. Details of what happened are explicit, but Aether was made a commander and top scientist by High Command. He has retained his position for years, even after the pirates decline.

Physical Appearance

Aether is a Luminoth muted with Phazon, that was later infused with Metroid DNA, so his appearance with details of all three things.
Aether is a slender, but heavily built figure, dark In colors, and about five times the size of a human. His limbs are long and thin, with the arms extending below the knees of his clawed legs. His hands each have three fingers, which end in claws, his feet also end with two large claws in the front and back. Aether posses two organic objects on his forearms that resemble power cannons and his shoulders posses six teeth-like spikes that resemble those of a Metroid Larva. His head is more full, with less Luminoth features. It is almost helmet like and the front bottom of it resembles a breathing mask. His heavy-lidded eyes are frequently icy-blue with a deep blue glow, though sometimes turn red when he’s in raged. He has large flat appendages that are membrane like wings lined with little spikes on the edges, he normally keeps them folded to resemble a cape. Aether has an organic exoskeleton created of bone-like tissues infused with organic metals and Phazon Armorskin, which add to his size and makes him look armored.
Throughout his entire body he has glowing vein-like marks which are running with Phazon.

Personality
Aether, at his core, believes knowledge and technology is the greatest power to possess. He grew to value his technological genius and sees himself as the best inventor in the galaxy, though he has great respect for other inventors. Although a member of the Space Pirates, he does not fully agree with their plans, but he doesn’t go against them due to not caring much at the end of the day. Aether is ruthless and cruel, as he will do anything to win a battle, even using up allies' lives just because he wants tactical advantage. However despite his actions he appears to be sophisticated, which can also make him seem more threatening, considering that he can be emotionless while killing people.
He has incredibly strong metal stability which allowed his mind to only partly be corrupted by Phazon, to the point he only lost minor memories of his past. He is extremely materialistic for the Phazon, yet not as greedy to obtain it as Dark Samus.
Aether rarely ever looses his cool or shows emotion, always appearing as a dauntless figure. He is also shown to be incredibly polite in his manner of speech.

As X-Zol he used to be hyperactive, childish, shy, and highly playing, which was odd for a child in a time war. He was known to be protective and loving of his family, as seen how he left his home in search of his missing sister.

Powers&Abilities

Aether has a large array of abilities, biological and technology, as well as multiple powers.

His basis Luminoth powers allow him to manipulate energy and light with ease, his phazon allows him to use corrupt both these things. He is also able to use his wings fly and fire organic missile like membranes.
He posses two organic arm cannons which allow him to use a wide variety of different beams: Shrapnel Beam, Power Beam, Ice Beam, Phazon Beam, Light Beam, Dark Beam, Annihilation Beam,and a Hyper Beam. The cannons are also fully capable of creating and using organic missiles: Super Missiles, Seeker Missiles, Storm Missiles, and Phazon Missiles.
Lastly, the cannons are capable of using a couple charge combos: FlameThrower and Ice Spreader, both infused with Phazon Inhancments. He passed three special weapons named The Holy Beam, The Chaos Beam, and The Eon Beam.
He is able to manipulate and channel Phazon energy at will, while nullifying its negative side effects. If he’s overloaded with Phazon he will use it to unleash massive and powerful Phazon attacks. He is able to create Echo Metroids, brings similar to the Dark Echo’s. He is capable of summoning Phazon tendrils out of his body or the ground, he can create crystallized Phazon spikes and structures, and capable of firing phazon shockwaves at an startlingly fast rate.
He is capable of draining the life of organics and the energy of machinery. Aether’s Metroid powers are represented by a icy-blue aura, similar to the color of his eyes.

Aether’s large arsenal of his abilities, his appearance, and his combat skills make him a terrible foe and a highly valued pirate Leader.

Boss Battles

Aether is a recurring boss which can be thought multiple times, in three specific areas. The locations of his battles are called Apex Facilitates, labs located on Dark Aether, Pirate Homeworld, and Phaze.
Each battle is the same, but with different levels and small changes. His battle of Aether is the standard, on the Homeworld he has lots of backup, on Phaze he is incredibly more powerful and difficult in every way.

Phase1
Aether can be found in the control room of the Apex Facility, working in the center of a large control panel, the fight starts after Samus destroys the controller. For most of the fight, Aether will fly around the room, firing his Shrapnel Beam and Storm missiles at Samus. He may also summon Phazon tendrils, which will grab and restrain Samus while Aether shoots at her, or the tendrils will slam Samus around whenever she gets close enough to them. Aether can be incredibly hard to hit, as he moves incredibly fast and uses a series of tunnels in the room to avoid attacks.

Phase2
Once his health is at half, the battle becomes mostly stationary. Aether will land back down on the control unit and raise a Phazon energy shield to nullify attacks and damage Samus via phazon shockwaves. He will summon several enemies named Phazon Seekers across the room, there special Phazon lasers being the only way to damage his Phazon shield. Once the shield breaks Samus will have about five seconds to damage Aether, before he unleashes a massive burst of Phazon energy that will deplete her power down to ten percent(no matter how much energy she has it will always be the same). Samus will now have to avoid Aether’s shockwaves and the blasts of the Phazon Seekers, until her a total recharge station emerges in the back of the room. Samus will need to repeat this five times to trigger the last part of the battle.

Phase3
Now Aether’s health would be at ten percent, close to his defeat. He will now be loosing his patience and fully ready to exploit his full capabilities. He will use new attacks as well as his move sets from the previous two phases. His new attacks are using the light, dark, and annihilator beams, as well as the Hyper Beam. He also utilizes Ice Spreader and a Phazon whip like attack. Comparing these new attacks, to his old ones, and his old battle formats: this battle is incredibly difficult to do as Aether never gives Samus a moments rest. If Samus gets to close to him, he will grab her and absorb her life with his Metroid powers.

Open his defeat Aether crashes into a wall and Phazon bursts out of his body, making his color scheme turn to that of a normal Luminoth for a couple seconds. Once his infected color scheme returns and he stands up, Aether will laugh a bit and speak to Samus: saying he is impressed by her intelligence, combat adoption, and fighting skills. He will reward her with a special Pirate Log, before filling the room with Phazon, and escaping.
