George and Ruben have not always been friends. Originally, Ruben lived with his mother in the Lustrous Mountains of Tao, and they lived a happy life. That is, until his mother took ill. As is Cubone tradition, they trekked from the mountains to the Boneyard when Ruben's mother was finally laid to rest.

And so that was where George found Ruben a week later, crying softly in the Boneyard, wearing his mother's skull. You may be wondering, what was a little Snivy doing out in the Boneyard? Running away of course. Although he was still young, George had always wanted to be an Explorer, but his parents wanted him safe near Tao Village. Seeing Ruben and his mother, George was reminded of how family is important. Since Ruben had no real home to go back to, George took him home to his parents. So Ruben became like one of the family.

Although he often ventured from the household, Ruben always came back in a few days time. Now, even though George has learned that family is probably the most important thing you can have, he still had the amazing dream to become an Explorer. So when posters went up advertising new positions, George just HAD to go. He begged his parents, and amazingly, they said yes!

Now George looked for Ruben, but he was nowhere to be found! Now of course George is a good friend, but sometimes Ruben could be out for a long time, and George wanted to get there as soon a physically possible, so he ran out the door. When he arrived, he found that Ruben was already at the front of the line! So just before Ruben finished signing up, George ran to the front and scribbled his name on the form then slid it to the officer. "Done!" So that's how George and Ruben became the Aces.
